Search is giving me nothing. I understood Fluidampr's 960311 fits 92 & 93. Well, I got one, and the sensor relocation bracket does not fit, and the fan impacts the thicker damper. :--)

Looks like I'm not the only one: http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1997837and. I've had my 92 in the shop for a while, and needed to get it finished today... ..... now I have to wait till Monday and talk to Fluidampr. #@$%!

I would like to hear from you if you have experience or information on installing a Fluidampr on a 92 or 93 Cummins.

Oh, what's with the silly wiring kit that comes with the new damper? It is simple to re-route the sensor harness to the new location with no modification to the wiring. Appears no r&d went into this part for 1st Gens. I know many have installed on 2nd Gens. (Maybe a 2nd Gen fan has more clearance?)

Anyone know if a 2nd gen fan hub assembly will fit the 1st gen radiator shroud? Looks to me like the 2nd gen mount moves the fan sideways (towards driver side?) some.

What? no-one using a Fluidampr?

3yr. ago my brother and I installed Fluidamprs on our '92 engines.

We had to space the fan clutch out to clear. On one we used a large thick washer that slipped over the male thread onto which the clutch screws. On the other we used a smaller washer which slipped inside the nut portion and stopped against the end of the hub. Either way works, but the smaller washer -inside- doesn't interfere with using he proper wrench to remove and/or tighten the fan.

You will need to get a new sensor, one for the 1994 engine, which has (2) elongated slots for mounting/adjusting. We got ours from Geno's, P/N Cummins P/N 3924432- $79. 95 at that time. Hope this helps.

Thanks JD. I just found out about the difference in the 94 sensor today. I modified the new bracket with a rat tail file.
I used a 1/8 washer on the male hub to get the fan to just clear the damper. I like your idea of a washer inside the nut. I dont like it so close, so may change that, but it's working for now. I think Fluidampr ought to inform buyers of these details. I'll get some pics up later.

If you are going to put a Fluidampr on your 1st gen, this is what I learned:
Fluidampr lists part no. 960311 to fit 92-98 12-valves.
The crank position sensor relocation bracket will not work with a 1st gen sensor. You can modify the bracket like I did, or use a 2nd gen sensor like JDancoe said. The dimensions of the 1st gen fan hub and pulley will result in the fan hitting the Fluidampr. Using a 1/8" washer spacer allows the fan blades to just clear the damper. Fluidampr tells me this is fine.
A 2nd gen hub and pulley puts the fan about 3/4" forward, 2" towards drivers side, and 1-3/4" down (from stock 1st gen). I didnt try one, but I think it might work to give more fan blade clearance... . might have to adjust the fan shroud some. The Fluidampr comes with a harness extension which I didn't need. I simply routed the sensor wires down the drivers side of the gearcase.

Oh, and if you need to change a belt in the future......you'll have to remove the crank sensor, and put it back on after the new belt is on, and set the gap, etc. If you carry a spare belt like I do, you also need to carry the tools.....and hope you don't throw a belt in a blizzard cuz it's gonna take you 3X as long to change a belt now. I might build a bracket to put the sensor back close to the stock location where it makes more sense to me to have it.

My stock damper was showing signs of age with the rubber bulging out and cracking. I also believe a quality viscous damper may actually work at subzero temps. We know what rubber is like at -40f. The truck runs quieter and smoother now. I know this thread had been a little one-sided, but maybe this info will be useful to someone in the future.

I've been following these threads as I've installed one in my '93, as well as other trucks, and had little problems.... I think the problem you guys are having are in the spacing of the fan bearing in the pedestal. Pressing it out 1/8-1/4" would fix any alignment issues. The center stud the fan clutch threads onto is pressed into the center of the bearing, and then the bearing pressed into the housing. I'm curious to see if you guy's belts are misaligned or if mine is.... I haven't followed up. I've got to pull my pump on my '93, as it went to leaking(cursed low-sulfur!!) so I'll be checking it out.
