I managed to remove the OEM damper by just loosening the bottom two nuts holding the fan shroud and collapse the schroud forward. I wiggled the OEM damper out passed the fan (barely). While I was at it, I did the “tone ring” mod as well. Now the Fluidampr is about ½” thicker. When it was time to re-install the Fluidampr, NO GO because the fan is in the way. Is it necessary to remove the fan? If so, how do you go about doing it? I can see two sets of bols, one is 6 13mm bolts attached to the fan facing the front and 6 more smaller ones facing the engine. Which one do I remove to move the fan out of the way about ½”. I even tried to re-install the OEM damper it too did not want to go back to its old home. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

try rotating fan as it has an odd placement of blades. if still no go the entire fan assem. can be moved/removed by the 4 bolts holding it to the block. 3 are easy the one behind the pulley needs a thin or ground box end wrench. I'm assuming the belt is off of course.

You'll need an extra pair of hands, a fan clutch removal tool with a couple thin welds to keep it from opening and slipping on the nut, and a torque wrench. One guy has to hold more tension on the belt while the other loosens the fan clutch. Then lift the fan and shroud out in one piece. It's really close cornered so be careful or you'll flatten some fins on the radiator. If you want to change the belt, now would be the time. Because the fluidampr is a touch bigger, you have to route the belt first before you slap it on. It also says to use new bolts, but you can get away with the old ones. Once torqued, finish routing the belt and reinstall the fan clutch.

I’m an Idiot!XXX

I’m an Idiot! I’m an Idiot! I’m an Idiot! The reason it did not fit is I had the tone ring backwards. It took me a hour of trying to re-install the OEM damper and wonder why it did not want to go back to its old home. I donned to try to flip the tone ring. That did the trick. It was still tight but it went in. man I feel like a big idiot. Thanks a lot guys/gal for all your help. Now tomorrow is a day set to install gauges and hope nothing goes wrong.

don't forget the result impressions and pics buddy

Tomorrow I'll take it up on I80 to the Bay Area tomorow and see if I can tell the difference. From idling alone I could not tell. The fluidampr is huge compared to the OEM and weigh at least 8lbs more. I almost dropped that moster on my head trying to shove it in that small hole betbeen the fan and crank.

What pics would you like?

The truck is definitely smoother and quieter now with the Fluidampr. This made the turbo sound more prominent. I guess some people love the sound but I think it will get old on a long drive. The wife noticed it and asked what that high pitched sound. I looked at her with a grin and said “the Cummins is making lots of torque”.

Overall I am satisfied with the mod. The rear of the fan is less than ½” from the front of the Fluidampr so changing the belt will be lots of fun for sure.

Jeff,

Attached is the pic of my dash with the gauges. I still have some wiring to finish though. And yes wearing a Level IIIA ballistic helmet it is highly recommended when installing one of these monster.

Looks great man. I think I like that column mount. I only need 2 guages... . so far anyway. Did you find a color matched column pod or did you paint it yourself??

Thanks for the pic bro, j

don't go out of your way for it, but a night pic with the dash lit up would be cool too.
