I installed one on my truck and it was easy. It came with a extra pin that you can install also but it only if you going to be pulling or racing and running high rpms. According to the mechanic at nadp that is a pain in the dark side to install and you don't really don't need it with normal driving. I'm happy with it so far, got 20,000 km (12,500 miles) with it.

Red Loctite might be a good idea.

I had one installed on my '03. The shop didn't put anything on the threads, and they backed out. 3 of 4 loosened up. I didn't notice anything until one day I shut off my truck and PING! I heard something. I looked under the truck and found a bolt. After some searching I found out what it was.

Upon further inspection it turns out that the dampener had been vibrating around and the locating pin bent. I posted a thread about it a while back...

I sent the truck back to the shop and they reinstalled with red Loctite. No problems for 30k + miles. Truck is gone, and the new owner hasn't had an issue.

I'm looking to get one for my '07. I like how smooth it made the motor in nearly all conditions...

It came loose because they didnt install it right in the first place.

I never used loctite and hasnt fallen off:rolleyes:

Really not too hard to install. Just take your time and get a barring (engine turning tool b series) from Snap-on (barring tool will assist you in locking your engine from turning over while your torquing the bolts).

Also use a torque wrench and take the bolts up to 150-165nm each.

Also install the belt on the damper before torquing/reassembling.

jwilliams3, Do you have the Snap-On part # of this barring tool? I have a 3/8 & 1/2 drive digital Snap-On torque wrench so I will not have problems reaching 165nm. Are there any special tricks I need to know before doing this? The only help I have is my 12 & 17 year old sons (handing tools). Thanks for the info.

How do you know the install was not done right? Just because yours has not fallen off w/out locktite does not prove any thing.

When i had the dealer warranty my crankseal i watched the tech re install the pully w/ no problems. He said he used locktite but two days later 3/4 bolts loosened up. I reinstalled and saw no locktite on the threads. I applied w/ Locktite and no problems since.

Sure it does. It proves I installed it correctly. My truck sees close to 4000rpm on a regular basis @ 675rwhp for 20-25 seconds at a time.

Cummins does not have to use Loctite on the dampers, and they also don't use them on the flywheel bolts. Guess what I dont either. My flywheel (I change flywheels about once a year) and my damper has yet to fall off.

Sounds like the dealer tech didnt take the time to properly torque the bolts.

Loctite is insurance, I agree, but you have to get the torque right... .

Regarding the tool: Cummins sells a tool kit that is/has been on sale for several months. It was less than the $55. 00 Snap-On wants.
