I'm coming up on 15,000 miles,& would like to change my nv5600, & my rear end on my 2003 3500 .

I read the numerous questions,& thoughts in the search area, but still don't know what is the correct fluid (s) for the nv5600,& the rear end that will stay within the good graces of dodge,& how much? thanks pcoakley

The 5600 takes a little over 4 quarts. Autozone has the Pennzoil equivalent fluid at $5 per quart. I changed mine at 5600 miles and shift quality improved noticeably.

I did mine recently, and this is what I found:

Front axle: 3 quarts (flowing out of the fill hole).

Rear axle: 4 quarts (about 1/4 inch below the fill hole)

I replaced transmission fluid with Pennzoil Synchromesh, but since I installed fastcoolers my capacity is a little higher. Service manual says 9. 5 pints stock.

I used Valvoline Synpower 75w-90 in both axles (NO limited slip additive needed in back). This is a fully-synthetic formulation. Others have used Mobil 1 with success as well. Many also use Amsoil, although it's not API-certified, so Dodge might not like it (not putting down Amsoil here, meerly stating a fact! Don't hurt me!).

Here's a thread about how to get Pennzoil Synchromesh:

How to get Synchromesh

Note that Pennzoil has the appropriate Mopar part number on the container, so it should comply with their requirements no problem.

fluids&capacities

Thanks guy's,I went to auto zone & they had the pennzoil synchromesh, but only 1qt of mobile 1 which they are getting more of at which time they will call me.

I called my dealers parts dept ,& was told that I positively needed 90w 140,& a modifier for the limited slip at$19. 20qt,plus $7. 80,I told him that my owners manual said that no modifier is needed,he replied buddy it's your warranty do what you want!the disinformation on our truck is Scary. The fear of not knowing what they put in our trucks is probably the biggest reason I would do it myself. pcoakley
