SouthBend Con-ofe is going in tomorrow. Quick Question. . The service manual says that the flywheel bolts must be replaced, not re used. Is this really necessary? Are they concerned that they will be streched from torque?

My first south bend did not have them but my second one (CON-FE) came with new bolts.

i would not be afraid to reuse them as i did the first time, just make sure you loc tite them.

maybe call Peter and ask the expert...

bolt torque

Usually when you see this restriction it means the bolts are installed in a 'torque to yield' manner. This means the bolts are torqued and then usually measured. They are then turned in some additional amount either by measuring the bolt or just by twisting it in some additional amount of rotation. This stretches the fastener to it's yield point. This provides the maximum available holding power, but means the fastener should not be re-used.

Bottom line: It is a lot of work to get to them. Personally, I would replace them.
