Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Hp ?

OK folks, here are my questions.

My 96 was a California truck and the data plate attached to the engine indicated 180 HP. The engine for the rest of the country would have 215 on the plate. They were even advertised with these numbers.

Is it safe to assume this was flywheel HP? or rear wheel?

Is the HP advertised today flywheel or rearwheel?

Now I dynoed yesterday at Shelleys in Otis Orchard and their machine indicates 215 HP at the rear wheels. They told me to add 30% to get flywheel HP. Does 30% sound right to you folks?

As a side question, you folks getting the real big numbers in HP, are those flywheel or rear wheel numbers?

I am not envious or anything like that, I just want to be properly impressed

It is really hard to tell what loss we have without running a truck on the chassis dyno after the engine was run on an engine dyno.

With that being said, ;) from what I see on stock trucks, we have roughly a 15% loss to the wheels if the chassis dyno run is in lock-up.

I have seen nearly a 35% loss with a high stall converter in a race car.

Thank you gentlemen.

The reason I was given for the 30% number was transmission, transfer case and differential.

30% added to my 215 brings my flywheel power to 280 making it 100 over stock. Since it is governed at 2500 rpm I find the numbers respectable.

Thank you all for your responses.
