OK,, Thought this interesting and after doing both a forum search and internet search, basically coming up with some interesting "stuff", I thought I'd share.
I made the mistake of letting my FOB battery go totally dead. Like Dead, dead.. No big deal, right?
Found a great deal on Amazon for real Energizers that had a 2025 freshness date on them ($4.95 for 4) and yes batteries appear to now have a freshness date. (LOL)
I digress,, got my new batteries in, changed out both FOBs and the one for my bike.
Got up the next morning, hit the auto-start, nothing. Hit the unlock, nothing. Walked outside, still no auto-start but the doors did unlock if I was right by the truck.
Hummmmm,,,, Google search found a few "Thy this, it worked for me" and "You have to ???? to resync your FOB" stories. None of them worked for me.
I was not a happy camper and sure didn't want to visit the dealer and probably get nowhere sooooooo working off combining a few of the maybes I'd found I did this:
Got in the truck, hit the auto-start. Truck started but the minute I put my foot on the brake to push the button it died.
Hit the lock, hit the unlock and for no real reason, hit the lock again.
This time when I hit the auto-start it let me put my foot on the brake and push the button.
Got up the next morning, 33* outside, went through my morning ritual and hit the auto-start. Horn honked twice, truck fired right up.
I'm still clueless as to if any of this procedure is something documented somewhere, exactly what I did that made it work or what but it worked.
The only thing I could find on the web was something for a 2009 or 2010 that mentioned needing to resync the FOB to the truck if the battery went flat.
I still haven't tried my second FOB but I bet I'm probably going to have to do the same with it,,, or not..
Lesson learned, change batteries every year if you used the remote a lot.
DON'T let it got dead, dead.
Oh, don't know if it was a freak thing or what but even when the FOB wouldn't do anything "I" wanted it to do, the panic button still worked.
If this helps anyone else out it was worth typing..
