I have a 99 3/4 ton 4x4 quad cab 8'bed. Because I drive on country roads that have no lines or reflectors, I have a need for additional lighting to the side of the headlights beam.

Can anyone recommend an aftermarket light that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? They would be attached to the grill protector I have mounted on the
front. My 'cutouts' are not wired for lights.

Thanks

My friend alway runs Bosch driving lights. I have a set of Light Force 170 still to be installed. Shop around and see what is available near you in you price range. Don't buy the cheap ones. David

I have a set of the 4" Hella lights mounted on the front of my truck. I don't know exactly what wattage they are I got them on a trade for the bumper that's on my truck and he threw the lights in after the deal was already made. I can tell you that even with them properly adjusted I can not drive with them on in the near vicinity of traffic. Even on the freeway I've had oncoming traffic flash me from a significant distance. Works great for me because I am out on the roads very early in the morning when there is almost no traffic. Really lights the deer and fox up in the tree line.
If your not afraid to spend some money LEDs are the way to go but theyre a little out of my price range.

I also am looking for some driving/fog lights. While I have had a set of the lightforce 170's for 10 years as Shadrach does they are way too much for regular on road driving/fog lights at least if anyone is in their path for a mile. They light up quite well but sit too high at least on my truck to be useful on road if there is any traffic whatsoever. While I have certainly used them on road when I can for deer spotters on the mountain roads here they are not a turn them on and forget about them on road light. I had the stock fogs mounted on my DOR bumper down low and they worked but the mounting was hokey then one of the lenses got blasted by a rock and shattered so I took them off and just haven't got around to replacing them with something more suitable. Ditto on JR's assessment of leds would like them but wow they are pricey at least the good ones are beyond my current budget for lights.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at some Rigid leds, and am considering the Hella Optilux 2020 combo fog and driving light.
anyone know about these two?
if they didn't want 15-20% restocking fee, I would just order up a bunch and try them.....

Kind of NOT what your looking for but really why limit your saftey with less

Have two of the flood beams (I think that's what they call them) and One of the pencil beam in the center of them, the hwy in front of the house is a gathering ground for Elk and deer at night, don't have to tell ya what hitting those will do the the grill of your truck. To me its cheaper than body work, and the insurance rate increase to just spring for the lights and be done with it. BTJMO I know it says OFF ROAD ONLY but the Sheriff and state hwy have them. I guess it just boils down to being human and turning them off sometimes. But with these I don't have to add deer slayers to run the animals off the hwy :D

I have surely been tempted with the 'off road only" lights....BUT, I am in Cali, and don't need the hassel or $$ that could accumulate..
I ordered a stock fog lite from Geno's, just to see what it does. and I ordered the Hella 2020 I mentioned above. I can test them without
installing, so will know right away if they are keepers.
Will update when I know something.

I have the OEM lights on my 04 not of much use other than to see where the trash cans are when pulling into the driveway. I had my off road lamps when we lived in Calif but their use was thought out. When we went to Borrego Springs I used them and like the idea of having them on bonzi runs to MT, now that we are in MT I wouldn't be without them. Son has some legal Hella lamps on his while not a powerful as the others they are differently better than the OEM

Call Genos and see if they still sell the 9006 (oem fog bulb) to 9012 (55w halogen upgradwe bulb) wire harness adapters that they used to sell...you can easily run the brighter bulbs in the oem fogs and still stay safely within the current abilities of the stock harness and fog light switch. It is a quick and easy upgrade...plug n' play, if they still sell them.
