2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fog Light dont work (checked everything)???

Yesterday i was cruzing with my fog light on when i noticed they wern't on anymore. I checked the fuse, i checked and replaced the relay, I went down to the connector on the front crossmember and i have power there. I took apart and inspected the headlight switch and it looked ok. Everything on the headlight switch works fine except the foglights dont come on.



I just want to make sure the switch is bad before I spend $60 on a new one.

Are they wired in series and one of them is burned out ?



Try supplying power directly to the lights side of the connector on the front crossmember...

Bet it is the light switch. Had mine go out at 60k, replaced the switch and all is working... ... ... ... ...

Generally, when the switch fails, you have power at both terminals of the fog lamp bulb connector, no ground.

My switch has gone out. If you pull the switch out to turn the fog lights on, they won't come on. If you pull the switch a little harder they will come on but go out when you release. Probably time to buy a new switch.

The fog lamp circuit on the 2002 Ram is switched ground. When operating properly there is always +12 volts at the orange/red wires at the bulb sockets. The path to ground is as follows:



bulb filaments>lt. blue wire at the bulb socket>fog lamp relay in PDC>contacts in the headlight switch>ground.



The ground at the headlight switch is common to the head lights and parking lights. Since BigDan states the only problem is with the fogs, he has power at the connector on the front cross member, and that he swapped out the relay, I'm betting on the switch or both bulbs burned out.



The relay only functions as an interlock, with the contacts opening when high beams are selected. The relay can be eliminated from the equation by installing a jumper (fogs-on-with-high beams modification) as shown at the bottom of this page (2002 is the same as 2000 & 2001) on the great Dave Fritz site.



A check with a meter should find the problem quickly.

Thanks for your input guys. It WAS the switch. Haha i paid $63 so i can have my cheesy fog lights work. But they do look cool when driving down the highway

Had the same problem and the dealer had to run a new wire from the fuse panel do to the wire being broken inside the wireing harness some where . I made them make it look like a factory job and retape the harness to cover it.
