each of the third gen year models are wired slightly different, leave the bulb in the socket and connect the volt meter or test light ground to the frame and check each wire, you can usually touch the contacts with the bulb. i bet you find you have voltage on both wires, i think you will find a broken ground . it is easer to trouble shoot if you leave the bulb in and turned on if you have corrosion in a connector it will read voltage with out a load but can not under load. the test light actually works better than the multimeter for this.
