Fold A Cover Tonneau

I'm giving a hard look at the Fold A Cover top as a means of security for my short bed and Reese hitch. I like the idea of being able to access both ends, and to leave it on while towing my fifth wheel.

Anybody have any experience with this product? I am told they will inherently leak some.

I have had a fold-a-cover since '95. No leaks until the fabric that covers the hinges got old and cracked. I like the thing. It's strong enough to walk on. One of these days I will getaroundtoit and replace the fabric.

I have an Advance Cover (same as Fold A Cover as far as I can tell) and it seals pretty well. I use a brushless car wash on a regular basis and get very little water in the bed. If you washed with a hose, I don't think there would be any leaks. Gotta do a good job on the install, though. The hinge covers on my bed cover are rubber, not fabric. Pretty happy with mine. Got it so that I can pull horseys with the gooseneck and then have lockable storage when I get there.



Got mine from DrVinylUSa - They had a good price and the product is solid.



Only weak point is the cheap plastic clip that the locking mechanism uses.

I didn't use the clip for locking the rear panel on my installation. I sit on the tailgate to put on my waders, have lunch, etc. and it looked like a good way to snag things. I didn't want to take a chance on ripping my waders.



So, I bought a "Pop Lock". Then, removed the stainless steel lever and turned it 180 degrees so it's completely enclosed. The only downside is that the tailgate has to be opened to reach the lever but at least I'm not using that cheap piece of plastic & drilling holes in my tailgate.

I have had mine for several years, but am about to get rid of it, I think. My problems have been the hinge has had to be replaced, the attachment to the truck bed doesn't stay tight and the primary problem... ... ... ... when folded up and pulling my fifth wheel, it has bumped and gouged the front of the trailer several times. Didn't have this last problem until I got the 4wd with the higher rear height. In my case, I even had the rear spring spacers reduced by about 2 inches to reduce height. I will readily admit this last problem is not actually the fault of the cover, but when folded up and towing. the cover sticks up 2. 5 to 3 inches above the bed, which causes the problem. I really wish you could get 4wd without the additional height - I just pull a trailer, I don't go '2 tracking' and don't neet or want the additional height.

If anyone has had any experience with the cover Geno's is now selling, I would be interested in hearing it.

Another option that you might want to consider is a rollup. On my current truck I have the "Pace Edwards" electric which comes with a remote switch like the door opener. On my '98 I had the "Roll 'n' Lock" which closes with a pull strap. The manual has 3 stop positions, the electric can be stopped in any position. The canister only uses about 8-9 inches of bed and does not go to the floor.
