Fooling IAT sensor

From what I understand, if the IAT reads a lower temp. value, the ECM will increase fueling. What do you guys think would happen if I just placed a fixed value resistance(3K resistor) on the sensor plug. Would there be negative effects other than fuel mileage?

Dan, I can tell you that my IAT was about 3K off when I replaced it. There was no apparent extra power but more smoke on shifting and fuel mileage was down. You can do a search from the archives where I did the measurement for Marco sometime last summer and see what the values I measured were. I think the amount of fuel you would get that way wouldn't do you much good if you are looking for some extra ponies under the hood.
