Difference in DVD-RW & DVD+RW

I have turned the anaroid (sp) on the back of the pump and got some more power on my parents 84 300d, I am in the process of blocking the egr, but LSMITH said he knew how to get these things to European specs, I am looking for that info. If you could post that my dad would be most excited.

Thanks alot, Merry Christmas.

Why do you want to block the EGR? That engine should run 1/2 a million miles with the EGR, and you probably will not feel any power difference, just an increese of NOX which our kids have to breath.

I would advise blocking the EGR also. Have you ever looked in the intake of a diesel with EGR? It is not a pretty sight! I blocked the EGR on my '85 BMW 524TD using JB Weld in the EGR tube. Still looks factory and will keep the goop out of the intake manifold. With EGR, it may be a half a million mile engine, but will require more frequent maintenence. Without EGR, it could last a million miles and require less maintenence, due to no goop in the intake manifold and on the intake valve stems. Diesel + EGR is NOT a good combination.

Block the EGR. Anyone that knows how it works knows that it does VERY little for emissions and a lot for engine problems. It is a knee-jerk bandaid, and a poor one at that. It does make a difference in power too when blocked not to mention better fuel economy which WILL actually lower emissions of noxious gasses.

For European spec adjust the wastegate for 13. 5 PSI and crank out the aneroid screw for a grey haze out of the exhuast at WOT. Not black, not clear, but just a solid grey haze. That is as close as you can get without major fooling around and having the pump run on the stand etc.

Before you mess around check the timing chain. If it is loose fix it. Adjust the valves, . 007" and . 015" dead cold. Change BOTH of the fuel filters, the inline filter and the canister filter. Make sure the aneroid screw is no more than about 3 turns out from stock. Then when all of that is done take it for a spin. I doubt very much that you will do anything else to it, they run GOOD when tuned up and don't need anything else.

You can thank DL5Treez for emailing me about this thread if you got any good info. Without him I never would of seen it... .

The newer 'Euro' diesels may require some electronic fooling if they have a MAF sensor.

For example: When the ECM in the VW TDI (ALH) calls for EGR flow... it also looks for a cooresponding drop in airflow across the MAF.

You can get around this, but it just takes a little bit of 'Kentucky Windage'... . and a soldering iron. :)

You can also 'turn down' the EGR flow via an ECM software hack so that the ECM won't activate the EGR as much... . so you don't clog up stuff.
