Unfortunately for those of us with the sport bumpers on the newer 2nd gens, nobody is making a adapter to put real fog lights in place of the factory garbage that they call fogs. So it is up to us to figure out our own way to do it. Well I had a set of Piaa 510's laying around from my 2000 Dakota so I figured I had to find a way to use them.

Upon first examination I came to the conclusion that whoever designed the factory fog light assembly should be shot. Then I started to look for anything within close proximity that I could bolt a mount to. No problem, found that... ... to the inside of each fog light is two bolts where the outer bracket bolts to the bottom of the reinforcement. The double bolt, (call it what you like), Are two bolts that are both mounted the a plate. What I ended up doing was replacing both those bolts with longer ones since the fog bracket had to be raised way up. So I took off to the hardware store and picked up 2 M12 X 46mm bolts, 2 M12 X 30mm bolts, 6 M12 split washers, 6 M12 nuts, 2 M10 X 36mm bolts, 4 M10 split washers, 4 M10 nuts, and 20 M10 flat washers. I also needed 6 inches of 1/4 X 1" steel flat bar.

Now this installation has been on my truck for over 2 years so the only pictures I have taken are of the completed project. The first pic shows what I ended up doing.

I took that 6" piece of steel and cut it in half and cleaned up the edges. Then drilled two holes 1. 75 inches apart center to center. One hole is 1/2 inch while the other is 3/8. This picture shows the bracket off.....

Now there is nothing more then putting the pieces together.....

The Piaa 510's come with a M10 bolt that you will need to replace with the longer M10 that was bought. On mine I found a nut that was the right size for a spacer but since each vehicle might be different you would use washers instead since you can add or subtract as needed... .

Obviously the hardest part of this is getting the light centered in the pocket while aimed straight. It isn't actualy labor intensive since there is plenty of working room under the truck. it just takes a little time. I actually waited till dark to adjusted them. However once done and tight you should never have to adjust it again because you can replace the bulb by removing the reflector from the base thus not touching either bolt on the bracket. In the 2 years of this on my truck I never once needed to adjust it. This was made for the 510 specifically though I would imagine any 4" light would work by changing the distance between the holes on the bracket depending on the depth and the placement of the mounting bolt.

I realise it isn't pretty but I couldn't see any other way of doing it so I went this route. Maybe someone else will know of a better way and speak up. Good luck and happy trails. :) :)

BTW, you will not be able to use the cute little grills that come with the 510's since there is not enough clearance in the fog pocket. :)

Looks good. I'm sure it was nice to make use of the PIAA's you had sitting around. Unfortunately I do not care enough about the fogs to spend the $$$ on a set of PIAA's, although they are great lights. I guess if I lived where I drove on dark country roads more often it would be a concern.

Actually looks very good and practical. Very adapatable for those needing more or other brand lights of similar mounting. I actually need a focused beam pointing in the other lane for the idiots that don't dim them in traffic. It would be a nice deer spotter on the open road.

The hardest part is for those that don't have a McLendons Hardware or Tacoma Screw store handy with a metric bolt selection.

BTW How does it get rusty in a mostly saltless area?
