OK guys. Ive had it  , Do you guys with autos get the comment "You got a diesel with a automatic  " alot? Seems like whever i go and people see the inside of my truck they go "This is Auto  ?" I am really regretting buying a auto not just for this reason but for the fact that dodge cant make a v. b. / valve body to properly work with our cummins motor, and im also worried about the reliability { I am not having any problems with mine yet (10000) miles but im worried... My trans only slipped once (i think) when it was cold out and once from a stop light for about . 01 seconds I know with a 6 speed i wouldnt have to worry... . How many of you regret getting an automatic truck?

I am right now :(

Nick

very happy with the auto. 21000 miles/7000 miles pulling. the convenience is the reason i bought it.

ford guys give me guff for buying a dodge, but come-on, they're ignorant. don't let people talk you into buyers remorse, theres plenty of that after dropping $40k on any truck.

I agree with SLorenzen, dont let someone elses opinion make you regret getting what you have: opinions+ typing= flames.

Love the auto, for me it is the only choice, try driving around Boston with a stick, it get's old real fast. I have not had any problems with it either, shifts great, nice and firm and never hunts around above 50 MPH.

(quote)I do not have an automatic, and at the risk of getting flamed: diesel + automatic trans = oxymoron. I can do anything you can do and still chow down without having to put down the burger!!

I know 1 thing you can't do that a stick can. Pay only 750. 00 to fix the trans to hold a lot of power.

very happy with my autos, except for

6 speed owners constantly saying ...

now repeat after me in your most whiny voice ...

"you never would have outrun me if you had a manual" :{

:D

at the risk of getting flamed

Got an automatic. Don't regret it. BTW, what's the "Standard" transmission behind the Cummins? You know, the one you don't have to pay extra for??? The six speed was, I think, $400 and the automatic was $1100. What if I said, "I just want the regular transmission, not an optional one? Oxymoron? Isn't that what the term "mandatory option" is?

The wife said "you get a auto or you get nothing"... ..... not knowing exactly what "nothing" was referring too, I got the auto;)

This is a main reason i regret getting an auto... Plus the fact that i dont think leaving my auto trans stock would last 5 - 8 years, like i want the truck to. .

well it is like this ,I like my coffee in my mouth and not on my leg.

After one day of driving my son's 02 stick in traffic ,felt like my leg

had been run over by a MAC truck. Had 4 MOPOR 'S with 4 speed

trans . Never will have a day-driver truck with-out a auto. NEVER.

Nick, you are like me,, one day one way, one day another. One day it's auto, another manual.

Do What I did,, get one Auto, and One Manual... :D

Then, when you modify 'em, do each one wayy different than each other... LOL

This is my 2nd auto and I traded in my 02 6 speed. I like it and the copilot LOVES it! THAT says it all for me.

1st brand new truck was a 1984 F-250 with a standard 4 speed in it. A few months of driving in DFW traffic and I was very sorry for buying it. Drove that thing for four LONG years. I've owned 8 different trucks since that one and they have all been automatics.

I avoid traffic the best I can but it's hard to do in this area. Now when I'm in traffic I just drink a soda and sit back and relax, and that's hard to do when your pushing the cluth and shifting gears every few seconds.

BTW I've never had a problem with any of my automatic transmissions, but until the last two they were all fords. So far no poblems with the Dodge's.

Actually, most of the mopes around work asked me why I got the stick when I got the '03. But, since Dodge didn't ever do anything about the loss of throttle control with the 03 stick, I went with the auto on my '04. 5. I'm probably 50/50 on the deal. I like the ability to be lazy with the auto, and the smoothness, and, oh lets not forget it being so effortless clobbering ricers off the line.

The stick made it feel like a real truck, and you felt like all the power was really getting to the ground.

I can't speak to the durability of either, one way or another it seems like I have bought a truck for its longevity, only to trade a year or two later. I think this will be the last one for a while... . ;)
