injecting diesel before the turbo???

When is the engine really broken in?

Hey everyone my dad is looking at getting an F-800 w/a 7. 8L diesel in it. He said the valve covers say Power by Ford, but is this an International engine? Its a 6cyl. w/a 5spd with the split rear end. He said when he drove it down the road and gave it fuel, it would blow out whitish/blue smoke. I told him I didnt think that sounded good, but what do I know Oo. Any and all help is appreciated.

Not sure about that particular engine, but Ford tried to adapt some tractor engines for truck use like Intrashnational did with the DT466. Unfortunately they did not garner a very good reputation on the street. Buyer beware, I would say.

Originally when he called me and told me he was looking at a heavier duty Ford, and that it was a 6cyl I was hoping a Cummins was in there. I told him to find a good diesel mechanic and take it to them and have them look over it. He's been looking for a heavier duty truck for work to haul their rings and whatnot.

That is a ford built diesel, they made the 7. 8l and I think 6. 6l (?) both I-6. Don't know how reliable, but buddy of mine bought a mid 80's f-700 with 7. 8l utility boom body on it to set logs for large log home he built and it seemed to run ok, started good

I know of several Ford trucks with these I-6 engines and haven't heard of any problems. They seem to be easy on fuel.

Is this the engine referred to as Fords "Brazilian" diesel? If so, the one I drove for work was a complete dog. You didn't dare pull out in front of traffic with it. The cummins powered truck they bought after was much better.

Travis. .

We had about 6 of these in F600 (under CDL) bucket trucks. Basically they were pretty good engines as far as reliability goes. They have no power and they do smoke white real bad when cold/ cold out. The engine really does look like the old reliable 300 I-6 gasser at a glance, but much bigger. Unless it's real cheap, keep looking.

My brother runs both of the brazilian diesels. One in his chipper box truck w/ the 6L and the 7. 8L in the bucket truck.

Both are very reliable, but do smoke when cold. But they are low on hp, probably why they sip fuel.

Both are approaching the 300K mark and don't use any oil and started on some mornings when our tractors didn't start. Also they are cheap to work on. Over the "tunability" of the Cummins I would by one for sure.

I have two buses with the 6. 6 engine. Work well. No powerhouse though. Has an inline Bosch pump, non innercooled and Garrett turbo.

for the fords when its weight is f550 and above for the international engines its truley a international motor. it is the reworked with ford gadgetry like your powerstrokes in the f350. the inline 6 or 466 is all international and its a great engine. one of the diffs between the powerstrokes and 444e is diff headgaskets, diff computer,3 quart larger oil sump. the headgaskets are actually thinner on the international 444e than the 7. 3 powerstroke to create more torque at a lower rpm.
