Ford buy Cummins?

Last night a friend of mine told me that Ford bought out Dodge Cummins We have a bet going.



I hope this is not true. Does anyone have any info on this.

This myth is perpetuated by Ford salesman trying to make their product look better by inferring that Ford could use a Cummins engine but theirs is better.



I wouldn't doubt that they train them to say it.

Ford bought out cummins

Oh Boy!

This never ends. Well if they did, they are saying that the cummins is a superior motor then the powerstroke or why would they want to buy it?



I have had the rare opportunnity to drive both of these trucks for some time and I know what is what. All in all I have my dodge still! Ford does have more power off the line but my dodge would top end that ford easy. The dodge is a better all around truck so I kepted it. It also cost alot less to operate then the ford. Fuel mileage mileage on the ford was around 10 miles to the gallon if i was nice to it. On the dodge around 20 to 23 miles to the gallon. Most of the cummins motors are so de-tunned so it won't take out that cheap transmission that dodge puts in those trucks. I sure wish the dodge boys would solve that problem with those auto transmission's. What a product Dodge would have if they could work with ATS and install their tripleloc set up on the new RAMs.

I know a feller who bought an F-350 thinking the diesel under the hood was a Cummins because "Ford owns Cummins". He insisted the Ford PSD was a Cummins. I asked him to raise his hood and he was more than anxious to prove me wrong. He never even looked under the hood before he bought the truck. Then I raised my hood and showed him what a Cummins looks like. All he could say was "huh". :-laf

1. Ford does not own Cummins.



2. Cummins bought the remaining shares of Cummins stock (about 10%) back from Ford in early 1997.



3. Therefore, no Ford member is on the Cummins Board of Directors.



4. Cummins Engines will NOT be available in Ford pickups (in the forseeable future).



5. Ford heavy duty trucks (F650 &750) are available with B series engines.



How I wish the V8 crowd would just give up and admit the superiority of our inline sixes. With the new HPCR, they are now truly scaled down versions of the big ones. Go to www.fordcummins.com and look at their comparison of PSD vs CTD connecting rods. Makes me wonder how the v8s last as long as they do, especially since they have to run at higher rpms to make any power (relatively of course)
