Apparently, Ford prefers to remove some various items from their lineup to prove tow ratings

Excerpt:

"A Ford spokesman insists, though, that the F-450's gross vehicle weight rating is 14,000 pounds. He explained that Ford bases its maximum payload claim not on the base curb weight, as Chrysler does, but on the weight of the base vehicle after various items are deleted from a base F-450.

Ford shaved 154 pounds from the weight of the F-450, he said, by removing items that have the possibility of being deleted from a vehicle order. Among the items removed were the spare tire, tire jack, radio and center console.

Ford said it uses this practice to set the maximum payloads for all F-series pickups.

By comparison, General Motors has based its maximum payloads on the lightest version of a pickup a customer can order from its order book, including a heavy-duty pickup without a rear bumper. That minimum curb weight is below the weight of the lightest base version.

For the 2015 model year, the weight of the spare tire will also be subtracted to calculate the lightest vehicle configuration for the light-duty pickups, a spokesman said."

hahaha dont build a better truck with all the lawyer $$$$$ youre gonna spend, instead, sue someone over following a rule that you arent adhering to yourself...
WTG FURD!

I don't see this holding water until at the very minimum Ford adopts the SAE tow standards. Until then it is an apples to oranges comparison because who knows how Ford is coming up with the numbers. Even then it shouldn't even be considered if it makes it to court.
I like how GM has taken the back seat approach of "we're not playing a numbers game as it is meaningless to 99% of customers." Boy how their tune has changed over the last few years.

I've always been a apples to apples person and always look for the comparisons of equipment and the way the trucks are outfitted. Ford never brings to the contest a relevant differential. Its always a 430 or a lower number like a 456 for towing purposes to show up the competition. Also they don't bring the same class of style top of the line middle or bottom as the competition. So you can see how they get around the weight class as whats been pointed out.
Just my cents worth.

I have agree. I want an apples to apples comparison and it doesn't seem possible with the Ford or GM. The quote below is from the editor of TFLtruck.com. I watched the youtube video of the Ram-Ford-Chevy tow comparison. It clearly was a plug for Ford. The bottom line is that you can't compare them fairly; V8 vs I6. Here is what the editor had replied back to me from my response on the video:

"These trucks were matched very closely: all crew cab 4x4 luxury trucks with almost all options. They all had their most powerful diesel engines.

Each type of diesel engine has pros and cons. The V8s are a little higher revving. The I6 in the Cummins is more semi-truck like and revs a little lower."

Personally, I see no comparison and it's really too bad that Ford and GM have to keep trying to compete where there simply is not competition; basic engine simplicity, low end torque, longevity to name a few.
