Well I know that i've been kind of hiding as of late. I've been waiting for a Cummins mechanic up here in my neck of the woods to put back together (just exterior stuff) a '93 B model and the rest of the accident victim 4X4.

He's finally pulled it this last Saturday, only to find out that it would no longer rotate. To make a sad/long story short, it has a cracked head and had leaked water down into the #5 cylinder and rusted it but good.

As with most stories, I think it's gunna have a happy ending. He also has another of the same B model with only 120,000 instead of the bad one with 139,000. He's susposed to deliver it to the house later this week all ready to run.

I know that the crewcab FORD has been looking forward to this for sometime since I decided not to take apart my '90 dually for the swap.

Please wish me luck... .....

Thanks,

Dennis in Dewey

(backroad)Oo. :) Oo. :) Oo. :) :D

OK, now I've done it. The 460 gas hog is out of the truck and sitting in the corner.

Taking a vacation day (mental health) today to go to Phoenix to pick up the intercooler and motor mounts from Randy at Reliable Diesel.

The Cummins is supposed to be at the house this weekend. Will try to get lots of pics when everything STARTS to go back together.

You've all been great support and help while I've done a little research before starting the project. Lots of information and ideas well worth the $35 for TDR, even with some of the hostility in some of the other sections. People will be people and we all drive what we like best. Thanks...

Backroad:p

P. S. When I do get pictures ready, can anyone explain to this computer illiterate how to post them in a thread?

UPDATE...

All I can say at this point is that there is this great big, gaping hole under the hood of the Ford. The 460 mounts are out and the Navastar motor mount stands are in. I ended up getting the prefabbed block mounts from Randy at Reliable Diesel in Mesa, Arizona. Just didn't feel like messing with them myself.

While I was down at Reliable talking with Randy, I also picked up an awesome intercooler from a late model powerstroke. It's about twice the size of the stock '93 Dodge item an it will fit great in the Ford front space. I won't even have to cut the front core support or the firewall. On the subject of the firewall, I will have to bend up the body lip behind and about the back rocker cover to be able to get the rocker cover off later for service.

Been spending some time just trying to clean up under the hood on the fenderwells and firewall a litte. A lot gathers there over the period of 350,000 miles.

Randy Reliable is awesome to talk to. It's just amazing that someone so young can have so much information stored in his head. With his help and the help of several TDR's this swap should go very well. Just have to try to squeeze in more time to play in the shop. Work seems to preoccupy these things.

Since I am planning on using the Dodge 518 transmission, I'm looking forward to the challenge of trying to use all of the Dodge 205 transfercase parts and stuffing them into a Ford 205 case. Simply cannot find anyone that can tell me in this will work, so we must just press on with determination. I guess if this fails, I'm going to have to look further into using the NP241 transfercase as Hutchew suggested. Going to try to use the Ford column shift setup and going to convert the 518 transmission to a lockup converter. Just picked up the HD lockup converter from Hughes in Phoenix. They've always done a great job for me in that area.

Backroad... ... Oo. just having a good time... ... .

HEY! Who says that us young folks aren't any good as sources of information??!! haha :D

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results, and even the entire process... all in digital photos.

Matt

Good luck!

I can relate a little bit...

I have a 1978 F250 crew cab short bed 4x4 that is light in the

front end and waiting for that beautiful Cummins, brand new

NV4500, advanced adaptor's conversion plate and the stock

NP205 to be dropped in very soon.

I went with Roger's conversion kit at Fordcummins.com to make

it fit the right way. He is very resourceful and helpful.

The whole front end was dropped to give easy access. Also since I plan on shoe horning the entire drive train in at one time, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Let me know if you have any questions...

... Robert... :)
