Hi guys, I been a TDR member since 2000 when I bought my 99 Ram. I sold it last year and our shop bought a (Sept. 07) new 2008 F-650 rollback with the 300 hp 6. 7 Cummins engine.

The engine ran has ran fine until a few months ago when I was getting a CEL every morning for about 10 seconds after a few blocks. We took it to place and they charged me a fee too look at it and said that since the light was not staying on that it didn't have a stored code. Of coarse they said the light didnt come on when they had it.

The light returned so we made an apppointment with Cummins power systems in Bristrol Pa. They reported to us we missed 9 reprograms of the computer and it cause the regen fliter to be clogged. We were informed that if it was not under warrenty that it would be $11,000 to fix. My father blew a stack and asked why we were not informed of the updates and they didnt have an answer. We go to pick up the truck ( its been there a week and a half) and I pulled out of the lot and the CEL is on again. I took it back with dad behind and get the service manage to take a peek. He advised us to leave it so they can take a look. Now without a truck for 2 1/2 weeks they call and say it needs a new EGR and TURBO. The truck only has 8000 miles and I drive it 95% of the time (dad the other 5%) After paying 73g's I feel like we are trapped with less than a year left on the warrenty.

My thought is that this is warranty stuff, you shouldn't be paying anything. I'd be on the phone to ford / cummins until this was covered by warranty

we own and 08 5500 with over 40K miles... I looked at the F650 but after all my problems with Ford and their dealers bought another Dodge... the 5500... .

We've had no problems with the 5500 and the 6. 7... . it hasn't been back to the dealer in months and I'm sure is behind on several of the updates... .

Take it to your Ford dealer and remind him that its under warranty and to take care of it..... with the Dodge, they can't sell the 4500 or 5500 unless they have the equipment and a tech to support the trucks... you need to find a Ford Truck Dealer who sells the F650, not a dealer who just sells pickups...

This should be no problem for you... . With the F550 they took care of every think on the engine up to and past the 100K mile warranty... . because it was such a mess.....

I agree with Coalsmoke and Jelag. You bought a Ford with a Ford written warranty.

Find a large Ford dealer that sells and services Ford commercial medium duty trucks, even if you have to travel several hundred miles to find one. Hand them the keys and tell the service manager to call you when it is 100% right.

If they tell you you missed your updates ask them for their copies of the notification letters sent to your address of record with your truck's VIN.

There is a learning curve to the 6. 7's. Right now it is more of an art than science. Your best bet is to find a shop that has some experience dealing with them.

In the pick-ups a cel will store a code in memory (mandated by the feds). I doubt the medium duties would be diferent.

Oh sure, I can pull up historical but non-active codes from my truck, but the warranty police at Dodge would not fix it for me UNLESS the CEL was on when their tech gets in to play. This is why I have made the CEL related items dissappear, life is soooooo much better now:-laf

Can you please clarify on your initial post. What "place" did you take your truck to the first time? Will Cummins Power Systems warranty a Ford or Dodge engine package? Do you drive only short trips or only city driving? I would imagine that you would have to take it back to where you purchased the F650 to get a warranty issue resolved or at least a Ford dealer that sells the same type/model truck that you have. The C&C Dodges that have the 6. 7 (305HP) have had good reports on TDR. I'm an owner of one as well and just ran mine for a 500 mile round trip, and it ran flawless, as expected.

That is a dealer issue not a corporate policy, but in Canada you have that option to remove your problems without repercussions from the tree huggers :-laf

The 1st place was an authorized Cummins repair center. In NJ we have diesel emissions for anything over 18,000 GVW's so I think removing it would cause problems with the man. Cummins power systems has no problems fixing the truck, the problem lies with us as to what happens after next September when the warranty runs out and we are stuck with these enormous bills. We are picking up the truck tomorrow and will be on the horn to see what Ford/Cummins has to say. As far as driving, I drive 15 miles to work each way most on the highway.

Get the software up to date and have the dealer make sure the truck is going into regen. After the updates your chances of having trouble are greatly reduced.
