While snooping around on the competitions website I wondered into the commercial vehicle section. According to Ford there is NO Powerstroke option available. Instead they offer the 6. 7L Cummins! I don't know about you, but if I were a perspective Ford (F-250/F-350) buyer I would be concerned that they don't put their own diesel in the heavy duty on-road trucks.

Light duty pickup engines have never been available in Ford F650/750 medium duty trucks.
It's been either CAT or Cummins until CAT dropped out of the on-highway truck engine business, and since then, it's been Cummins.

Until recently, those trucks were assembled in a Ford/Navistar joint venture truck assembly plant in Mexico called Blue Diamond. If I remember correctly, the Ford 650/750 assembly has been moved to the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP) in Louisville, KY.

Cummins has enjoyed a good run with the CAT C7 and Detroit Diesel / Mercedes 900 Series dropping out of the medium duty market. That will change yet again when Detroit Diesel gets the DD7 out there in the near future.

When I purchased my 2007 F650 the 6. 0 powerstroke was available. It may have been the base engine i do not recall. My salesman recommended I choose any other engine.

You made a wise choice. I didn't realize they were available. I should have prefaced my comment "As far as I know". :eek:



I may be mistaken about assembly at KTP. They may be assembled at the Warren Truck Plant now that I've had time to think about it. I read about the assembly plant move in a newsletter some time ago. It was saying that Ford's production at Blue Diamond was limited and couldn't keep up with the demand.

They called it the 6. 0 PS, but I wonder since it's in a medium truck, if it's really in Navistar VT trim.

Yes, I believe they were. Our company had the unfortunate experience of having ~25 VT-365's in Internationals. They were just as much fun in the Internationals as they were in the Fords.

I can't seem to locate any reliable information regarding the DD7 do you have a link you can share?

It appears Ford has decided to stop embarrassing themselves now that they no longer offer the Powerstroke in medium duty trucks. Further, I find it interesting that they didn't bother to offer the "latest and greatest" 6. 7L Powerstroke in the F-650 and F-750 trucks, and it appears the trend started with the short lived 6. 4L Powerstroke.

I'm curious did your dealer elaborate?

At least you can get your hands around it in the medium with the tilt nose.

That, combined with the ground clearance of the MD, made it pretty easy to get a push broom underneath to sweep up the scattered parts on the ground.

I thought that was gonna read " get a broom underneath to get all the speedy dry and dirt from being out of service AGAIN"

They usually spread their parts on the road, so they were well drained by the time they came back in on the hook. Really saved on kitty litter.

True- follow the trail of fluid into the bay. Really, the fact of engine availability is very telling in those trucks. When I explain this situation, it's usually the end of any pick up truck engine comparison. It really knocked me over when Cat adopted the 6. 4 for marine use tho.

I can't explain the Cat situation either. The only thing I can think of is that they didn't have anything left in the pipeline after they shut their over the road program down. Giving credit however, I was in one of the 6. 4's at work this morning (they have 4 or 5 6. 4's and the rest are DT466's). Anyway, it had 55K on it and seemed to be running just fine. None of the 6. 0's that were previously there made it to that point.

No he did not elaborate. I did not ask why because I knew better than to purchase anything that resembles a powerstroke.
