Ford F150 Diesel First drive

Ok Now don't everyone Shoot me but I had the opportunity to drive the New 2019 F150 Diesel all I can say is Wow! The Ram Ecco Diesel has major competition. The power and performance is really nice and it's super quiet. I know it's a very new engine and time will tell. But first impressions for me at least were quite good. Ford is saying 25mpg city and 31mpg highway . Towing it's rated for 10,000 lbs give or take a bit. The breaks felt good it stopped with authority and the steering provided fair amount of feed back of the road the truck tracked well. I'd like to try towing with one but empty it was nice. I was thinking about my first Dodge Ram that 89 I had years ago how that truck drove and it's performance. This F150 was fast very fast in comparison throttle very responsive. I'm not sold on one yet. I want to see how they hold up over the long haul. But if the reports from owners are positive over the next 5 years it will be a contender for my next truck when this 2013 RAM finally lays down for good.
That said Hey RAM time to step it up!

Ford is definitely creating some good competition for trucks right now, Im sure there will be some emission issues as with all other diesels but suspect they will be a pretty solid truck overall.

I have no idea how they will hold up in the long run, but the new 10 speed transmission is most likely the big difference felt between the Ford and the Ram . I believe the difference in hp is only 10 hp and 20 lb ft. Both come on at lower rpm for the Ford, again, due in part to the extra gearing.
I'll probably never own one but I'm happy to see diesels making a comeback. I don't think we've ever seen all 3 manufacturers put out a half ton diesel at the same time. Thats a great thing.

Gotta get out of that “long run” game. I haven’t a clue about the power train or anything else on this truck, but I think 10 years of use without a catastrophic expense would be pushing it. Get a warranty to match or lease, like jgilliot is doing with his eco boost.
This ride is going to be short term bliss. Comparing it to a 1st gen is an insult to the legend.

I've had mine a few weeks shy of 6 months now. 8+K on the ticker. Zero issues and I work the ever livin daylights out of it. Rediculous power and efficiency. Extremely capable and comfortable. It will rewrite what you think of a 1/2 truck.

Getting to Wayne's point. I don't think that you are going to see these truck pounding day in and day out for 10, 15, 20 years. They are simply too electronic dependent. And knowing the quality of components put in to these trucks (not just Ford....Ram and GM are equally as guilty) you are going to see lots of $$$$ repairs in the future to keep these complex systems functioning.

Get one, use it, love every minute if it, and let it be someone else's problem down the road.

Totally agree but that is how I feel about most new vehicles these days, makes it hard to keep a new vehicle once the warranty is up. Thats why I am keeping my 06.

I agree. When we were in the process of turning in our TDI Sportwagen we were at a loss as to what new vehicle to purchase. While at our local VW dealer we noticed the new Jettas came with a lifetime warranty. That was a no brainer, SOLD! I’ll take that one. We’ve had the car around 18 months now and I’ve put almost 80K miles on it with zero problems.
