bbd where were you this weekend

It look like there is something, not too desirable, with any truck you consider. It best to weigh all the evils out and go with the best of all evils. I think the best of all evils is still the Dodge/Cummins Quad Cab and let the kids adjust. I had four little one that adjusted, so it can be done.

I bought an 03 Ford 6. 0 before the word was out on them.

It was a Lariat with all the options and was a great truck except the engine.

I won't go into all that went wrong with it, but my wife refused to make another trip cross country with it.

I did'nt trade it in on my new CTD because they really did'nt want it (read 50% of wholesale book. )

Long story-short, it took me a year to sell it and I practically had to give it away.

I've bought new Ford trucks for almost 30 years never another ferd diesel.

At 28000 mi. I love my Dodge, but mostly for the Cummins.

DC could at minimun offer free spin hubs as an option IMO.

My brother used to have a 2003 Duramax with the Allison 6 speed, it was a great truck, very fast and powerful stock, he had the Edge Juice w/ Attitude on it and it really hauled. Duing the 30K miles he had it the only problem that he had to have fixed under warranty was the wastegate was stuck open and they replaced it. I drove it a few times and it was really nice, especially the transmission, thing shifted great. But a friend of mine has the 2008 Chevy Duramax 4x4 with the new body style, sweet truck, but he was towing his 10k toy hauler and it started overheating and throwing codes, haven't talked to him but I think he barely made it home, the truck is bone stock. Like the Chevys hands down over the Fords and the transmission is sweet but I would not trade my Dodge for either of them.

if you go ford, go with the 7. 3. been around many 6. 0 trucks, and most were problem free and ran well, but there are many that didnt . i have had three 7. 3 powered fords, couldnt kill none of them. my 90 went 300k before selling it, as did my 97. my 02 is likely the best truck i have ever owned period, great power, reliability, mileage and so on. i make a living with my trucks[construction/farming] , and own all three brand diesels[ except duramax] and the 02 ford is my pick of the litter.

I would look for a used Mega Cab, may be hard to find since they just started making them in 06, maybe one with a Hemi. the Hemi is a good gas engine, I have driven them and they are pretty powerful.

OK, why would anybody want a gasser???? If you are planning on doing nothing but running around town and grocery getting, maybe, but then you don't need a truck. I for one will never own a gas truck again in my life, too short of a life span, not enough power, mileage drops like a rock if you start hauling anything or getting on it. Freind of mine bought a 2500 Chevy gasser, I teased him for not getting a diesel, first time he towed with it was a 16' trailer with a yard and a half of crushed granite... traded the truck a week later for a Duramax!

It is painfully clear that a Ford is the wrong way to go. That being said is there a particular model year Duramax that I should consider / avoid?
I had 2002 chevy duramax 4-door bone stock to scared to do anything to it. Turned out to be a great truck(99,000 miles). Traded it for a ctd because salesman I had been trading with didn't think I would drive anything but a chevy. On my second ctd. My dad got a 2002 duramax after I got mine. He had lots of injector problems. He now has a 2004 with 150,000 miles with edge easy. loves it. no problems to speak of. Thats my experience with duramax.

I have only heard good things from every dmax owner ive talked to. Almost bought a 2006 C&C d-max/zf-6 truck but it was 2wd and in texas, my 04' was 4x4 and in my dads driveway;) BTW theyre crazy fast with minimal tuning.

not to beat a dead horse, but... . I drove a 7. 3L for just under 100,000 miles and was not very impressed. it was in the shop to often.

on the duramax, I drove one once and was very impressed by the comfort and the sound system. on the downside I "think" they had some engine issues on the early ones. my . 02

Ummm, I don't think so! :-{}

You kidding? Every Powerjoke owner I talk to says his truck is the baddest, best running, never breaks down (only been in the shop seven times, first year), outpulls/hauls any Cummins or Duramax, his buddy has a Powerjoke with 2 million miles and counting without any service or even an oil change!

And my personal favorite, hear it at least 2-3 times a month or more, Ford owns Cummings!:-laf

I hear the same thing, especially from my brother-in-law, who is getting 21 mpg on a brand new 08, 6. 4 powerjoke, so he says, and my next door neighbor who goes on and on about his powerjoke, which is always in the shop.

Furd salesmen like to tell their customers that furd owns Cummins. They wish!

my brother has a 04 6. 0 and a 99 7. 3 they both are nice truck the 6. 0 is a nice ride got a juice with attitude on it fast as hell 4 a stock truck but they are both nice i drive both on a weekly basis i wouldnt NOT buy 1 the only thing is the 6. 0's have that antifreeze thing they do where it leaks it out of the resvore... we have a medical equiptment business with lots of 6. 0 box trucks no problems with drive them form place to place

I believe it is a roll of the dice, there are good and bad 6. 0 Powerstrokes. If you do a search in the general diesel forums under Nevada 6. 0 long term test drive or search under my posts I think you will see a fair assessment of the 2003 6. o I drive at work. I can't beleive that I have the only decent 6. 0 out there but I also know my step-son traded his in at 35k miles because he just could not trust it.

After having both the venerable 7. 3 psd and the 6. 0 pos in our fleet I can say that the 7. 3 is dead on reliable. The 6. 0 at 20 k has had 4 turbos 2 egr vavles 1 backpressure sensor, 4 reflashes, and reseal the injectors and fuel rails. All that before we ever hit 15k. The last 5k have been trouble free.

But it pulls good (1/2 as good as my ctd).

have fun changeing the belt or tention pulley and if you do youl'l love the two day's of itching on your fore arms if you do!
