Ford in dash tach

Ok, I have used the search and read all the post's about tach's. I want to hook up the factory ford tach to the cummins what is the best way to do it? I have seen the Auto Meeter tach that a lot of first gen dodge guys are using, could I use that for the signal and just wire my for tach to it?
