I have a welder buddy who is in the market for a C/C to put a welding bed and tools on. He is driving a 7. 3 Ford, probably early 90's. He's gotten away with leaving it at the gas plant he's been working as a maintenance welder for the last 4 years, commuting about 35-40 miles one way in a Nissan Frontier pu. Things are changing and he's more in the field, covering several miles and can't leave his truck at the plant, because of being on call-out. He's looking at Ford's right now. Has anyone heard any feedback on the new engines? The salesman told him the running gear is right, but they are having problems with the software. I really would like to see him become a Cummins owner and eventually a member of this community.

I am hearing nothing but positive feedback from the people I know. I may have to look at one if this new engine is as good as it is starting out to be.

I have heard a couple of reports of 20+ mpg with the high-speed version of the rear end when empty and still good power and tow ability. I don't know that these are true, but it bears watching none the less.

I am not in the market for a new truck of any make. My baby is doing fine.

Claims of fuel mileage in the 20 mpg range are not, IMO, even believable.

I wouldn't take a new Furd in an even trade for my '08 Ram with almost 90k trouble free miles on the odometer.

I know the upfitters around here like the new Dodges better because everything was better thought out, things like DEF tank, wiring, etc. . The Dodge is pretty much put a bed on and go. The Ford is lets figure out where to mount the DEF tank so we can fill it with a bed on. I hear that ford is supposed to be correcting the problem.

I know one thing I don't like about the Fords, the engine compartment looks the same as the previous two powerstrokes. It would take some doing to do any repairs under there, even replacing the serpentine belt. I got on one of the ford superduty forums and read some of the threads. Not too much complaining and reports of good fuel mileage and power. I don't doubt the power boasts, but always take the mileage reports with a grain of salt, even posted on this forum. My 13 mpg's pale in comparison with most reports on here, but I am running heavy. I wouldn't buy a ford, but it would be hard to convince a ford fan to buy a Dodge.
