How many miles on your "high" horsepower CTD?

How to spell Cummins in Ruski

I was at a party yesterday and two of my son's friends were talking trucks. I listened to them brag about their Fords and how much they liked them. One had just got rid of a Duramax (said it was a pile of junk that the dealer couldn't fix) and got a new Powerstroke 6. 0 and he really liked it. A while later I invited him to go for a ride in my Dodge. I told him that I had done some things to make it run a little better. After a couple of miles to get warmed up I stopped at the bottom of a fairly steep hill and bumped the Comp up to level five. After a little wheel spin in first and then fishtailing when it shifted to second I ran out of room at about 85mph and had to let off. Needless to say, this guy was breathless, couldn't believe a truck could do that. Said it was the fastest thing he had ever rode in.

He then wanted to know if there was something he could do to his truck to make it run better. I told him that he should trade for a Dodge but I would see if I could find out what was available for his truck. This is what I would like to know. This guy is mechanically challenged so limit it to what is available from that stand point.

What box or chip is available for the 6. 0 ?

He has a automatic - are trannie mods needed ?

What is the website for Ford ?

There are some chips out, but I don't think there are very many at this point. New ones coming out all the time.

transmission mods are necessary. The auto is weak.

Ford owner needs advice.....

Yeah, Uh, dump that boat anchor 6. 0 for something that has all its ducks in a row- a 5. 9 Cummins. :D :D Be cheaper than fixing the Ford 5x in 5K.

Sorry, couldnt resist, and no one had done it yet.

I wouldnt sup up the 6. 0. In case any issues arise.

I havent heard of any issues with the torqueshift handling power. I havent looked very hard though.

Before I bought my truck, I'd been studying the F-450/F-550 line quite intensely.

One of the factors that mitigated against the 6. 0L, to my way of thinking, was a change in the prerequisites for their "High Capacity Tow" option that adds 4,000 pounds to the F-550's GCWR:

For the 7. 3L the 4R100 had been mandatory.

For the 6. 0L the 6-speed manual is mandatory.

It seemed to me that they don't trust their own automatic. :-laf
