I'm Scared. Are You Scared?

Cummins Indy 500

Hey,

I know this is way off topic, but I have a neighbor whose husband is in Korea that is having probs with her 99 PSD. She says it starts and idles fine and then without warning stalls. Sometimes it restarts and others it won't. Sometimes she gets down the road before it stalls. Any ideas about possible causes, or where I can get info. for her to check out?

Thanks,

Travis

I know when the crank position sensor (CPS)went out on the older PSD's it would do that. Mine left me setting a couple times. I am not sure if they ever fixed that design or not, mine was a 95

CPS

How do you check the CPS. Will it flash a code? She says there are no codes being flashed, or no lights I should say. I just don't want her to get reamed by a local dealer and would like to help as much as possible.

Thanks,

Travis

It's been a while since my PSD days, but if I remember right the CPS will not throw any codes. When they start going there is generally no rhyme or reason for when they will act up.

It's a pretty easy part to swap out, only one bolt I think:confused: . If you go to www.thedieselstop.com and look through their forums you can read about it for days.

the cps does sound like it is the problem. not an expert on the navistar engines, but i have read many a thread over on the ford-diesel forums [now knows as the diesel stop] and the 70-90 price sounds about right from a international dealer for the part for the t444e engine. if you go to ford it will be close to double the price for the part
