I'm about to need new tires on my '96 2500 4x4 and I think I may have at least 1 bent wheel, so I've been looking at my options.

It sounds as if the newer Dodge aluminum wheels are a pain to fit on the older truck and not readily available either.

I just called the local take-off wheel place and he said he sells the pre-1999 Super Duty Ford Alcoa aluminum wheel and people are putting them on the Dodge. He didn't know of any problems or needed modifications.

Anybody done this? Does it look and fit OK? What do you think?

Thanks,

David

Alcoa Wheels

dthollis,

Welcome to the TDR:D

I have been doing some research on Alcoa wheels for our trucks and spoke to a sales rep. just yesterday. They do make stock replacements (16") all years, but not in all styles.

I think your local shop might be referring to the Alcoa 19. 5" wheels. I don't remember who, but someone out there is using these Furd wheels with adapters for the Dodge.

Give Alcoa Wheels a look for stock replacement styles and give them a call. They will set you up with p/ns and dealer location.

If your looking at the 19. 5's, a lot of members (and myself) like the Rickson Truck Accessories wheels. Their web site is not much, so call and ask them to send you some info.

Hope this gets you in the right direction.

They should fit if the bolt pattern is 8 on 6. 50 and are a hub centric design. This means that the wheel is centered using the center hub hole not the lug nuts. (At least on a 96 3500 dually that is what is required).

Check your offset and you should be in good shape.

Regarding not putting anything Ford on the truck.....

I took out the cheesy 'center console' that holes maybe two maps and added a Ford Van console. Works great and matches the 96 Gray plastic vinyl and cloth great.

Just added a Ford Rear Bumper to replace the paper thin Dodge OEM piece of crap that bends if you walk into it. Had to redrill three mounting holes per bracket and trim some plastic but it looks OEM and is a heavier steel gage thickness so should resist the walking dents far superior to the Dodge OEM bumper.

By the way, all of our trucks have GM stuff on it- the pwoer steering pump and the NV 4500 trans (only Dodge engineers screwed up 5th gear) and the NV 5600. What about all the GM Dana Spicer driveline components. Even has Jap stuff on it in the Nippondenso starter.

Who cares as long as it works better (or suits the truck owner) than the OEM stuff.

DT, where are you located. I have a set of the Chrome 7x16 wheels that I might sell, if I can find another set of new 8x16's. Snow King

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to have the wheels checked for runout next week so I'll know exactly what I've got.

Snow King, I'm in Central Illinois, so we're too far away from each other. Thanks anyway.

dthollis, where is the tire place?

I would like to install a set of the Mopar aluminum wheels on my dually but used takeoffs should be cheaper.

Could you see if they have any? The later style Ford wheels are the same style and (I believe) the same offset.

Thanks!

Extreme 1: There are 2 nearby new take-off places and neither of them had any of the new style Dodge aluminum wheels and didn't know when/if they would ever get any.

One of the places told me the 1999-up Ford 8 lug wheels are a different pattern(metric) than the 1997-down ones. That's what they told me... Something to check 1st!

Try this place for take-off wheels and tires. Looks like tire and wheel combo is cheaper than replacing tires in some cases.
