In the August Issue of Trailer life, there is a article on the "replacement" of the front wheel bearing assemblys on the F350-450 550. Dynatrac has assemblys out to correct this problem. But to cut down on assembly cost ford used a bearing assembly that will not last, because of the DRW adapters that put extra stress on the bearings and all front axel components in the hub area. This effects the 1999-2004 trucks and they are working a on the 05' now. having over sized tires and pushed out rims also add to the problem. Ford terms this as a normal wear item and will not - in most cases participate in the repair. can come on as early as 50,000 miles ABS lights come on and won't go off, a wably wheel sensor is the indication of the bearings going away.
For those of you with the 2000 to current Dodges, they have a kit that you can convert your DRW to free running axels by the use of manual hubs. It has all the components in a kit, according to the article, to save the wear and tear, and increase your mileage. Check out there web site at
www.dynatrac.com But by going to there site and checking out there prices you'll see it is not cheap. Your truck maybe a KEEPER for ever.
