Jeep FC170

Hammersly- Growing up my Dad bought two of the Jeep Forward Cab FC-150's which I believe had a shorter wheelbase than the FC-170 one in the link you provided. The first FC-150 was in very good shape and we basically just did a repaint, interior and a few mechanicals. I believe that was in 1965 or 1966. The second FC-150 probably should have been left in the field where my Dad found it since it had been sitting for many years. It required every possible thing replaced short of the body which was also swiss cheesed with rust. At the time my Dad was the body shop foreman at the GM plant in Doraville, Georgia and could do anything with sheet metal so that solved the body problem. Anyway, both units had 4 cylinders 3 speed manuals with a low range transfer case. They were fun for me to drive since I had just gotten my license about that time. A friend of our family had another one which my Dad repainted but it was unusual because it had dual rear wheels - which I have never seen another like it anywhere. I don't know if the duals were a factory thing or not. I still would like to find one to restore and possibly do a diesel conversion or other power upgrade on. The forward control allowed an approach angle that was obscene and always scared the crap of my friends going down steep hills. Anyway, sorry the long story but I think an updated vehicle like this would be a blast.

PS Here's a link to some FC-150's Just click on the serial numbers for some pictures.

i saw a Mack driving down the road that was a twin steer axle FWD control. it was a bare rail setup with two other trucks in tow behind it. brand new being delivered... it was just at the high end of medium duty in size...

Good info on the dual wheel models

Hammersly - Good info on the dual wheel models. I searched around on the "Traderonline" looking to see if there were any FC's around. They're not very plentiful at least not many showing up in the Southeastern portion of the USA. Thanks for the heads up on the info however.

Here is a better pic of one of those jeeps. I am in an old car club with the owner, and I really would like to have that jeep. There are a couple more in the town I live in. One even has a matching tralier.

Actually, a new version of these is available (sort of). Check out the Mitsubishi line of trucks. They make an awesome diesel 4x4 LCF (low cab forward). These little trucks are bulletproof, and the 4x4 system reminds you of how trucks used to be made. Nice units and priced about like any other 1 ton 4x4.

That's one beautiful truck! :)

We had one of those when I was a kid. I think it had been a county weed district spray truck. It was just a chassis/cab when Dad got it. Overhauled the Contential? 4 banger, mounted a toolbox behind the cab and late 60's Chevy pickup box. What a great hunting rig. Never could decide weather to call it a Cheep, or a Jeepolet. Wonder what became of it.
