It has 95,400 miles, 4x4 very clean looking in the pictures. It is in Indiana, so salt would be an issue (I think?). Automatic transmission, quad cab.

It was built in the St. Louis plant.

They're asking $16,900 for it.

I do believe that to be a bit high, even for a rare truck like that.

What do fellow owners think would be a fair price?

I just bought a 98 club cab 12v auto trans with 81,000. no rust some dents (very small) and i got it for $8,900. Ive seen alot for that price because they are "rare", not sure if thats worth it to you, its not to me.

Im sure having the quad cab adds some value, but that much seems like a stretch.

The "rare" part isn't worth it. I was curious as to what others paid, if bought used, or that they've seen for what price.

This one is also a short wheelbase model.

KBB and NADA show it about $11,000.

Thanks for the response though.

I sold a 98 12V 117k miles 3 yrs ago for 17K, truck was showroom mint, stupid stupid stupid, you cant go out any day of the week and buy a low miler that has not been beat to death.

I bought a hi miler and am in it about 14K fixed up, I found I could not live without my Dodge, I looked hi and low for a year I never found a low miler or I would own it today.

I think its worth it if you dont need to do the trans, think about, if its clean and runs out right your buying a great truck that will run for along time

for 16K?

i found, today, a 1998 24 valve club cab automatic with 112k on it for 7900... has a brand new vp44 and lift pump on it... is this a good deal?? My son wants a dodge cummins.

They sent me pics of the truck and there is only slight rusting on the welds and corners of the frame, but most of the front end components have quite a bit of rusting showing. Not enough to cause holes (yet) so I think everything looks good on it.

For you guys who in live in the snowy north, how much rusting should be acceptable?

I sold a 98' 12v valve quad cab that was 2wd for a little over $8k 16 months ago. It was nicer than what you are describing and the miles were less...

They are hard to find, that cannot be disputed. But is it worth it? If the front end has never been worked on and you can't do it yourself, you are looking at over $2k to have it redone. This alone would dissuade me at the price they are asking.

In addition, I would never go back to an automatic. This too could be big cash if it needs a rebuild or even if you want to put a upgraded torque converter in it.

Finally was the quad cab worth it? That is a question only you can answer... There is not a ton of leg room back there. In addition the doors never seemed to seal great on mine.

Times are tight for most everyone right now it seems... I would say if you have to have one, wait a bit a one will come along sooner or later at a more reasonable price. In all my "must have" purchases, I have noticed had I waited a couple more months another one just like it popped up and usually for a better price...

Just my . 02

The front end and transmission are the two items I keep wondering about. I've decided to just wait until one turns up closer to I can personally check it out.

I'm just extremely picky about the color... only black or silver will do. Makes it tougher to find the right one.

As for this particular truck, I think $11000 is a fair price for it. Ah well.

Mine is pretty much rust free, I have surface rust where the bed is scratched in areas, no holes anywhere

Very rarely will you regret not pulling the trigger on something such as this. .

My left front balljoint let go last month on my way home from work. For reference, the front end was apart last year (<10,000 miles) and everything was still tight. Well I was between a rock and a hard place and had someone else do it. The parts alone, before a much appreciated discount, were in the neighborhood of $2200. Granted I had everything replaced, (and I do mean everything) but it was pricey. Just something to keep in mind.

Yet, I wouldn't go back to my 2wd for a variety of reasons. Just don't compromise on your hard and fast requirements and you will be fine. For me the last thing I was worried about was color. All I wanted was a 5 spd and 4wd. In the end I ended up with a 3500 and the ugliest black, green and silver paint job... . But I am happy as can be.

I know, it happens often. I'm always looking and I seem to always find one that I like, but I never follow through.

The front end is a reason that I keep looking. My truck needs paint, a new front end and the heater core replaced. The heater core I can do, but haven't had the time to tackle it yet. But the other parts are $$$. I keep thinking, is it worth it or should I find another used one to atleast save on paint (or some other reason to find a new truck).

But common sense always wins in the end. I think it's a guy thing, "Oh, I have to have that!"

In the end I'll end up keeping my truck and doing a lot of work to it. I have special plans for the transmission when the time comes.

dont be afraid to grab a plane ticket, I was just about to fly to look at a car this week a round trip ticket was $300 bucks,

you cant pay to get a good inspection done for that, fly in look something over yourself, buy it or pass and fly home, drive it home or ship it, shipping is about 1300 on a open rig.

keep your options open.

I've thought about that. That's actually how I bought my current truck. Flew to Dallas, took a look and a drive then bought it and drove home.
