For the past couple years my 06 4wd 2500 has had a clunk in the steering you could feel through the wheel and on rough roads the floor. Long story short I’ve replaced everything but the axle and the gear box. The other night while greasing my new ball joints after a long trip I rolled over and smashed my elbow into the pitman arm. There was my clunk. The pitman shaft moves side to side and up and down slightly. Gear box time or try and adjust it? Stock tires stock height and 86000 miles. Thanks for all suggestions

Tighten the set screw on the top of the box to take the slack out of the vertical play and see if the clunk goes away. When you cannot get the slack out of the steering without it sticking crossing center THEN it is shot. Usually you can get one adjustment out of them and then it gets iffy.
