Which way do you move the lever to get four low my truck didn't come with The original shift linkage and I can't seem to get it in four low

Thanks Shaun

To the best of my knowledge 4hi is always straight back, neutral is just forward of 2hi and 4lo is all the way forward

Thanks for the replies guys got it working now hopefully I won't have to slip the clutch when starting a big load that's half stuck in mud or snow .

my 92 wont go into 4 low , i think the shift for or rods are bad in it , but i also hate the gated shift mechanism

Ya the gated shift mechanism kinda sucks kinda hard to tell what range yer in also on my truck it takes some force to get it to go into four low partly because of that gated shift get the lever in the right spot she goes right in

NHAAAA!! Twin sticks!!! The two shift levers operate two seperate functions. If you look at the T-case, it will have two shift rails. One is for 4 wheel drive, the other is for the 4low planetary Going seatward only operates the 4wheel drive rail, going to 4low operates both..... Twin sticks gives you the ability to use 2low. :D BSCwarzli did that recently in his '90 when he installed the NV5600... . PHYSCO!! I love it!! TDR is awesome... . :D BSchwarzli's thread... . https://www.turbodieselregister.com...gen-Getrag-to-a-NV5600-Pics-and-text-included

Ditto... Twin sticks are more fun. And you get 2wd low with your hubs locked if you need it.

When my 74 was still single sticked, rolling ~1mph made it 900 times easier to get into low. Sitting still it was a PITA. Its a little easier with the twin sticks, but still occasionally tight. My 74 stays in low 80% of its life, so the 2wd low feature is way useful for me. My RC cummins conversion will be twin stick'd too.

I know offroad design has the shift rails and linkages for the gm stuff but the rails and levers might work ?

I like the idea of the twin sticks just want a bolt in and go thing , then to know if it has to come all apart to put the rails in ?as i think thats whats wrong with mine

Umm, the rails are readily available from several sources. I get mine from Blumenthal's, but the NP 205 is THE transfer case of choice for most off-road builds due to it's simplicity and availablility. And realize, the twin sticks use the stock shift rails, just a different linkage to connect to each rail indiviually. A stock Dodge will have a simple single metal bar bolted between the two rails with a rod running to the shift lever... . Most of the time, I find the hard shifting is due to lack of use and the rails being dirty/rusty and not being easily able to move in their bore, as well as the shift lever being bound up from lack of use and dirt... ... The typical grinding shift is normal, as the gears are not synchro'ed to be shifted sitting still..... In this pic, you can see the single piece of metal used to shift both rails. Shifting it forward (moving the lever back) gives you 4high, moving only the one lever. Shifting rearward(lever forward) moved both rails, giving you both 4wd and low range. :D

Exactly. The only reason to pull a rail is if you want to mod it for front wheel drive only... other than that, the twin stick kit is easy. People build their own quite frequently.

PHYSCO? I almost take offense to that! :D

And a reminder for those trying to et into 4 low, it is shifter all the way forward, and highly recommended you put it in N and SHUT THE TRUCK OFF! Did I just say that? Yes. Due to the gearing I have never found it easy to get into 4 low unless your t case is worn. If your t case is still good all you need to do is shut off, and it will go in soooo smooth!

Donovan,

Try Quad 4x4 for a great selection of parts: http://www.quad4x4.com/New_Process_NP205_Parts.html

Whatchewmean linkey no workey!? Odd. Works on my end..... Hmmm

Well, I wasn't referring DIRECTLY to you..... but if the shoe fits, hey..... :D And I can personally say, if you were to refer to me with that same remark,"I represent that remark... " :D

Hmm, the link worked for me... . Quad4x4, I was thinking of them, but couldn't remember where the heck they were at... I've used them a few times, and they're super nice to deal with, and will call you at the slightest problem to try to make it right with you... . I think the guy's name is Dan.

If you look around, there are prefabbed parts you can bolt in. Basically, you just bolt one lever to one rail, and one lever to another..... Look here for the prefabbed twin sticks and shifter boots... . http://jkwoffroad.com/offroadproducts.php There are others out there, that's just the first guy I can remember.

Rookies, BSchwarzli... Ametuers when they start doing it for hire on the side. Then when you get a full-time shop and start hating it, you become a professional... ... . Prefab is for the guy with 3 customer's trucks in their yard... .....

Or for guys that take so long on a truck project that they pass it onto their kids to finish. :D

True!

Or for guys that take so long on a truck project that they pass it onto their kids to finish. :D

Wow! Back handed slap! LMAO That hurts! Man my head is still spinning! :D

I like it though! That was harsh and to the point! Might have even been a bit funny! :D
