I stopped at my local diesel shopa and they don't stock fuel filters for the 03's. They directed me to the local auto parts store that has Fram fuel filters. I remember the stuff about their oil filters not being adequate and causing problems, so I'm hesitant to use them for the fuel filter. Am I just being paranoid, or should I look for something else? (dealer, order Fleetguard, etc. )

I think the problems were with oil filters. I don't think you'll do any harm with a Fram FF but you can get Fleetguards at Geno's for a price thats comparable to a Frams.

Hi Hammer

I was going to put a Fram filter (HPG1) back by my pusher

pump but Fram said it,s not compatable with diesel. I don,t

know if it,s the same filter but if it don,t say all fuels i

wouldn,t use it.

Have a good one---------Frank

bighammer,

If you are not in a huge hurry, stop by AIS. They can order you the Fleetguard filters for you. I just stopped and picked up a case of oil filters from them today. $2 a piece cheaper than the Cummins shop.

You know on these diesels I wouldn't want to use anything but a good, been around awhile, quality filter. I think fleetguard is a safe bet, genos has them, I'm not to shure about the o3's, I know they have mine.

Fram filter problems?

Someone fill me in on the Fram oil filters problems. I haven't heard anything about this and I actually have one on my truck right now.

What's been the major problems with them?

HH, The problem with some filters is Quality control mostly and lower quality materials secondly. I believe that Cummings even put out a TSB about Fram oil filters.

What has happened is 1. The glue used to assemble the filter media is poorly done allowing pieces of the glue to remain loose or break off. These tiny little pieces plug the oil cooling holes in the piston skirts.

2. The filters will also fail completely allowing the filter media to block off the oil galleys. But not to worry! I'm sure Fram will send you out a New filter to replace the one that failed. I have also seen the housings on lower quality filters rupture on cold startups and come completely off.

The three most important things to a super long life with the CTD is Clean Fuel, OIL and Air.

The best thing is to get FleetGuard or Dodge/Mopar = FleetGaurd + Big$. Geno's is a good supplier. Or go to your local Truck stop, Cummins or Freight Liner dealer.

Or feel free to give me a call. I stock and sell FleetGuard and Afe Filters.

Get that Fram filter out ASAP if a Dodge dealer see's it they will void you warranty. The first time I brought my truck by the dealer and complained about the gorilla that put the factory filter on the tech came out and looked for a Fram filter.

Fram filters are cr@p always have been always will be you don't believe me come by and we will cut one open it's a fun Saturday afternoon laugh. :D :D :D

The junk Allied Signal puts out I can't believe they are still in business:eek:

Hey I work for those crap peddlers! Allied signal bought Honeywell and realized their name was better for propaganda. So now the Allied Signal name is going away and the company will be known as Honeywell. Don't worry, we'll trash that name too

Thanks for the heads up... ... . I guess you have to just check out everything for what it is and not trust a name anymore... .

junk frams!!!!

:{ :{ used a fram filter on my off-road car. Just got the motor done ran a race filter collapsed abd spun the bearings. Real nice new motor down the drain.

The question was about a FUEL filter and not oil filter, but their track record with those ain't too good.

I'll look for the Fleetguards.

Thanks all

(My normal Cumins shop doesn't stock them for some reason and sent me to the local auto parts store. They have the Fram filters I bought but haven't installed)

Well I will take it off simply because you guys are giving them such bad reviews but I had my truck at the Dodge dealer a few months ago and when my Fram Filter got a hole in it (very suspicious) and they didn't say anything.

Anyway, I will take it off but I wondered if I could take it off without draining any oil. Because I just changed my oil a few hundred miles ago and don't want to waste the fresh oil. Can I just unscrew the thing and put a new one on without losing any massive amounts of oil? I didn't know if any would leak out.

I would (and do) get the Stratopore filters from Gino's, good price and they are made for your truck.

Dean I believe he's asking about FUEL FILTERS. ;)

I agree, from everything I've heard, fram is total garbage... get the real deal fleetguard one... :)

Anyone have any suggestions on which oil filters are the best for gas engines?

I like Wix filters if you can find them if not get a K&N the 1" wrench fitting on the end of them is worth the 10 bucks alone on some applications
