Frame comparison

... so we're at the bone yard yesterday... and we compared my '93 diesel extended cab long bed frame to that of identical '90 150 and '92 250 gasser frame. I could not tell them apart - same height, width, girth, and thickness.



I know this topic has been gone over on some other threads and I've been searching everything I can find from everywhere, but I cannot find anything definitive that says the gasser frames are or are not the ones used under the diesels and vice versa. So, can anyone confirm or deny that the gasser frames from the '90-'93 are the same identical big thick and meaty frames that the diesels used?, save for minor differences on maybe bolt locations, etc etc blah blah? I know there are different part numbers for different frames (ie - '92 D250 diesel vs '92 D250 gasser) but that can be for several reasons simply based on what was bolted up to them or which crossmembers were used. We checked several points up and down the frames - could not find anything that indicated one was a half-ton gasser and one was a diesel - they just looked and measured exactly the same. I had an extended cab W150 gasser right next to my '93 D250 diesel - no difference.



I'm trying to discover what the differences really were. Anyone?

92/93 gas or diesel full sizes were the tallest, I'd guess that they even used the diesel frames for the gasser on the w250 . Measure the height of the frame at the FWD spring mount of the REAR axle. This is where you'll see the difference between a short frame and a tall frame... other than that they're hard to tell.



It is easy to spot. The short frames won't span the whole height of the leaf spring mount, the tall ones will engulf the mount and then some...



That said, I hacked off the whole front frame section firewall fwd off a 1992 ramcharger and those frame pieces were identical to the 1993 W250 I have...
