The GVW weights are just confusing to me so, I thought I would ask you guys what class of frame hitch ( lV or V ) our 1st Gen is supposed to have. Mine is a 1993 Clubcab 2WD. Thanks
FWIW, the limiting factor on the 1st Gens is the frame. It is a C-Channel construction vs the boxed frame design. With a Class V hitch and a sudden "jolt", I bent the frame on mine. I solved the problem with a little fabrication...I made a thread about it here at one time if you're interested.
Well, with that being said, perhaps I should get the class lV and stay within the trucks limits. Human nature, always seeking bigger and better I guess.
Well, I ended up ordering the Curt 14001 class lV hitch from etrailer. Also had to order the relays, plug and harness as mine didn't have any of the wiring. But, I do have a Prodigy controller I can swap out with a Tacoma I have.
Have a great day.
