4bt ford bellhousing bolt pattern?

I wasn't entirely sure where to post this, but it is related to a conversion so I put it here.

I just purchased an '83 W350 crew cab 4x4 :D and intend to do the cummins conversion to it. It was previously rebuilt/refurbished by the last owner and is now running a '93 5. 9L Magnum (gas engine) with an A518 auto overdrive/married 205 tcase.

A friend of mine has a '91(ish I'm not exactly sure of the year) D250 2wd cummins with the A518 auto overdrive.

We are wondering if we can somehow use the front half of the 2wd diesel trans and the back half of the 4wd gas trans in order to make a 4wd diesel trans. Can you just swap the rear adapter housings?? or do you have to swap output shafts to work with the 205?? Any difference between a 2wd/4wd diesel torque converter????

Yes the trans cases are the same in the rear, Just the internal gears are cut different for the Diesels, let a good trans shop take them apart and mate the two together.

You need to verify the rear splines as I have been told that the diesels ran a bigger stronger rear spline than on the gas motors

Good luck

Thanks Thierry,

I was thinking that they shouldn't be that much different.

Anybody know any good trans shops in SoCal (Riverside San Bernardino)???

BTW, Do you still have those crew cabs??? Parting anything out??? I am missing the rear door armrests. Would be interested in the door panels or even a set of rear doors if the price was right. (don't really need the doors, but it would be nice to have spares)
