Parking Brake - Not working

I'm getting very frustrated with my parking brake not working. I adjusted the cable to the maximum. The pedal gets tight like it's holding but it doesn't hold at all. I assume this has something to do with the adjustment of the rear brake shoes. I took off the drums and there was a lot of brake dust on the shoes which tells me they are not even making contact with the drums. I adjusted the starwheels and it sure stops a lot better but still no parking brake.



I read during a search that you should feel a slight drag when you freespin the wheel. Is this true? If so, I need to tighten up the rears a little more. Please help, I hate turning my truck off just because my p-brake doesn't work. Thanks Clay

I usually like to spin the wheels to get a bit of drag, and then back it off like one click. I would suggest getting bigger wheel cylinders, this increases the pressure put on the shoes and helps grab better, also make sure the parking brake lever is attached in the drum... good luck.

It sounds to me like your cables are seized, when the drums are off , or even the wheels off the ground, have someone work the P. pedle and see if P. brake works , also make sure that after the brake is off that the wheels turn freely , if they do'nt lock up and then unlock you need cables. 1 to each side of the rear and 1 joining the 2 and going to the pedle.

I can see the p-brake working. I can push the pedal and hang my head out the door to see it work and release so I don't think the parking brake is the problem. I think I need to add several more clicks and see where I'm at. Do you guys think the p-brake will work once my shoes are adjusted correctly? I sure hope so. I miss being able to leave my truck running when I leave it.
