I just came back from Texas Motor Speedway from a race week after a easy trip with the CTD just purring. This weekend we're racing close to home at Perris Speedway and while making the 50-mile drive towing the 30' foot TPD trailer to the track this morning, I experienced what I describe as a "Dead Pedal," a couple different times.

Reminded me of when my APPS went sideways in Kansas while towing from So Cal to Michigan a couple years ago.

I made it to the track and parked and set up the trailer and went to the Riviera Race shop in Hemet 15-miles away where Rockstar was doing a photo shoot with the Baja 500 race truck. During my short drive the truck was flawless.

When I tried to leave the shop it was hard starting, but finally rumbled to life. I was thinking CP3, APPS, I have a FASS so I ruled out fuel pump, filters were changed right before Texas and wasn't that many miles... hmmmm

I drove down the street to Freedom-Diesel in Hemet, CA and met wtih the owner Dan. He was doing the standard business owner thing fixing the FAX machine... he stopped what he was doing after I gave him my symptoms and asked if he would pull codes (the check engine light was on) and give me an idea what was up.

See, I was sort of in a jam and he didn't even know it, but he stepped right up while he was juggling 10 different things in a super busy diesel shop.

Today is Thursday and tomorrow I have to be at the track all day and then Sunday morning we leave for the Baja 500... ( I know-I know, but it's all work and lots of it) and then in Baja all week preparing for Saturday's race and then haul azz home and change trailers and head out on Monday for Wisconsin short-course racing ...

I had no time to get my truck to the OC Guru - Bob4x4 over at McPeeks.

Dan pulled codes and popped the hood and with his fingers wiggled the battery cable from side to side and said that's your problem right there. Seems the first 170K on my 2005 put the battery cables into a bit of a loose condition...

He offered to fix em' up right quick and I asked if he could do new batteries and get everything in order cuz I'm slammed and getting this project done on Sunday morning after the race while packing up and trying to get out of town south of the border didn't fit in my schedule.

An hour later I was rolling out of Freedom-Diesel.com shop in Hemet with a couple new batteries along with cleaned up and tighten electrical connections and met yet another solid guy in the diesel community that provides great service.

Thanks to Dan and his crew at Freedom-Diesels for service that I would recommend to this fine community here on the TDR.

If you're in need of anything while in the area be sure to check these guys out. Solid as a rock.
