I wasn't getting fresh air from vents or A/C, so I did a search on TDR. After reading, and checking my vacuum system, I found that one of the actuator motors or diaphams was leaking. It is the one just above the gas pedal. I read on some earlier posts that they are about $35. I went to the dealer and they want over $85 for this wimpy little part. Am I missing something? Could they have gone up this much? Is there another source for these? The part # is 4886070AB. If anyone knows a better source I'd really appreciate hearing about it. TIA, Jim

Hi Jim,

I just went through this on my 1997. There was a recall on the 1995 and 1996 model years for the check valve on the vacuum pump. When the check valve fails, it allows oil into the vacuum system which can cause other failures, including the HVAC actuators. The recall addressed the vacuum assist brake system as it could fail as a result of oil contamination. 1997 went to a hydro assist brake system and was not included in the recall. There is a TSB (read about it here) and also a recall (read about it here).

Hope this helps,

T-Bone
