Death by towing!

looking to have a load hauled

I wonder if anyone has tried this or even has had this problem.

On my 1988 TT, with a full fresh water tank, I lose water out of the fill spout when parked on a slope, or just driving down the road (probably up or down hill). Not alot necessarily, but enough that I wanted to stop it.

So, I put some handy wrap over the hole, and closed the cap over it. Doesn't leak anymore. Has anyone tried this ? If there any problem running the faucet with the handy wrap on the filler hole ? I know if I just try to externally drain the tank, it comes out much slower with the handy wrap on.

Just a word of caution. Plastic RV tanks are not strong enough to take a substantial pressure differential, either positive or negative. There are a number of reports on iRV2 of users who have blocked vent holes and either collapsed or ruptured these plastic tanks.

If it were me, I'd rather put a vacuum hose fitting in the vent hole of the cap and then extend a hose from the fitting higher up in/on the RV to prevent water loss. You could even run the hose into a "catch can" (think coolant overflow bottle) if you wanted. This way, your vent is still functional.

Water comes out of the tank on our TT but its not from the cap there is a tube that runs along with the filler hose. It comes out of the overflow tube I guess you would call it but its not much like you say. just enough to make your TT look like you didnt wash it as it collects dirt as you travel. I didnt think about it but as RustyJC pointed out the pressure could cause some problems something to think about anyway

The tube is a vent line to allow filling the tank without "burping water" out of the fill tube when filling the tank with fresh water. Try placing you finger over the vent tube outlet while filling the tank with a water hose and see what happens. :-laf

Hint: The result will be the same as filling a '80s Ford diesel pickup at the truck fuel island.

Well, if there is a burb tube, it is not obvious on my trailer. And, when I fill it to the top, it does burp water all over the place. I have to put the cap on and lock the door to keep it from burping out. I must have a cheaper fresh water tank.

Or the burp tube could be pluged mine is a little hole just under the fill cap and Bill is right when filling air is pouring out of the vent hole.

All the trailers I've seen have a vent - the problem is they usually sag + get some water in them + don't vent very well!

That said, the vent IS usually the high spot so if the plastic wrap over the fill spout works it shouldn't cause a problem.

A precaution would be to open a faucet in the trailer - if too much pressure built up it would burp through the faucet.

FParisi,

Thanks, I found it just now. Just before I came in and looked at the web site.

I like your idea of opening a faucet when I travel. Think Ill try that.
