Home now - cancel 911 Friday Feb. 21 5:30 pm

***I made it home now*** Stand-down 911.

My husband is stranded in Carrollton Texas off I-35

He asked me to type this 911 post

2001 6 speed 4x2 49,000 miles

can’t get truck in gear

symptoms: clutch seems to have gone out

clutch pedal does not engage clutch enough

to get in gear

tried pumping clutch several times-only helped

while truck was off, but when truck was started

the pedal goes limp again

there has been no previous symptoms

clutch had been working good

no warning signs

no power modifications on truck

He has always been very easy on clutch-mostly highway miles

As soon as he turns truck off he can pump clutch a little, and

Feels pressure on it

I just talked with Steve. He mentioned the truck is now off the highway. If the vehicle is turned off he can restart and has clutch for 20-30seconds. The truck just rolled 50,000miles. Is anyone with a newer truck familiar with warranty issues? It would be nice to get Dodge to pay for a towtruck.

WcJp... . It sounds like his clutch fluid is to low to engage or is out completely. The fluid resovior is on the top of the firewall, drivers side... Brake fluid would work if not leaking... Its also possibe to start truck in gear to get going and double clutch carefully to shift. This may be enough to get some where for help... This should be good for dealer warrenty. Sorry no moblie to call, pls pass on if you can.

my husband said that the first thing he checked was the fluid and it was full.

He checked just now with engine running and it was still full.

As soon as he started truck the pedal went limp.

He wanted me to ask you how to drain the system, and he is thinking that possibly, it is clogged(???)

It sounds to me like the slave cylinder went south. The clutch master cylinder is a sealed system, not bleedable, and if it's leaking it's likely to be internal, and simply by-passing. He can get the complete system from the firewall to the bell housing from the dealer for around $140, pre filled with fluid and ready to install, it should take no more than 30 minutes to install. (at 50,000 miles this will not be warrenteed)

In the mean time,(providing he is still waiting for a ride) have him start the truck in gear (with the clutch disengauged of course) and shift without the clutch to get where he needs to be.

Good luck, Rob

I'm home now...

Thanks for all your help everyone...

Traffic finally slowed down a little so I risked it and drove home.

I had forgotten all about shifting with out a clutch - thanks Rob.

Oddly enough, I had pressure for about five seconds after starting the truck. So I was able to get it in first real easy. Then almost immediately was going clutchless.

Got up to the house and just coasted right into the garage.

I'll start working on it tomorrow.

Guess I'll be shopping around for a new master/slave cylinder.

Rob said John Deere makes one. If anyone knows what the part number is, let me know.

I'll call the dealer and Deere in the morning.

Thanks again everyone for all the help. I'll keep you posted in the regular forums of the outcome.

I have an '01. 5 and only got the 3/36,000. You '02 guys lost your wheel well liners, but got a slightly better warrenty.

For a new slave and master cylinder, call Peter at South Bend Clutch. I just got one from him for around $100 to $110. And it is the same as the dealer will sell you for about twice that.
