I gave up diesel fuel additive for Lent, seeing as how I was running out anyway.



I'll be there with an exhaust brake to adjust. I walked out of Advance Auto last night with hot sauce (for Tim), hose clamps, and a 12 foot section of hose. I wonder what the parts guy thinks I'm going to do with it all.

Actually I told him I needed to set the back pressure on my exhaust brake, and he kind of gave me an, "Oh... really!?"



So I explained how an exhaust brake works on a diesel, no butterfly valve in the intake, hence no vacuum, no engine braking. Put a butterfly in the exhaust and get back pressure instead for engine braking... To which he responded, "Did you think of this yourself?" I almost wish he had followed me out, just to prove that what I did wasn't thrown together from coffee cans, bailing wire, and plumbing supplies.



Of course, asking him if the hot sauce could be used as an exfoliant (Tim's question), or if a vacuum gauge could be turned around and made into a pressure gauge, didn't help at all.

I may make a rare appearence if work lets me. I have a couple of fuel filters (fleetguard FS-19579) if anyone wants them. I just installed a FASS and won't be needing them anymore.
