RV service changing due to economy?

Yesterday i was putting the battery back into the trailer after it being in my shop for a few months due to the weather. As I was doing this I noticed that there were a few sparks while I was adjusting the cables onto the battery posts. I went in side to check things out. The fridge light comes on when I open the door, but I cannot turn turn the fridge on at all. The radio will not come on either. The monitor panel for the tanks and battery does not light up. I thought that I might have blown a fuse. I checked them out and could not find anything blown. Did I blow something that I do not know about? Any of you in TDR land have this problem? I really don't want to take it to the dealer for them to charge me major bucks just to look at it.

Was the trailer's AC plugged in during the winter? Sounds like you may have blown the AC/DC converter. Call Northwood Mfg. and speak to one of the reps. They are all very helpful.

Could you have reversed the battery polarity when installing it? Was the trailer's ac shorepower cord plugged into a power source while you were attempting to connect the battery?

Check the battery posts to ensure you have attached the battery cables properly, positive to positive, etc. then plug in the AC shore power connection to a 115vac source.

If you have a simple voltmeter read the dc voltage from the battery positive post to ground. It should be something above 12 volts, probably between 13 and 14 volts if the ac/dc converter is working.

If you eliminate both these possible problems look for a blown dc fuse in the trailer.

If you left the trailer plugged in to shorepower while the battery was removed as Grizzly suggested you may have destroyed the converter.

My money's on reversed connections at the battery. The fellow that bought my old 5er called me last spring with similar symptoms. Went over to his house and he had reversed the battery connections. Hooked the battery up correctly and it was all good. No damage to any components. :)

Anything that is not polarity sensitive such as a light bulb will still work with reversed polarity, but the rest of it won't from what I witnessed. It will make you scratch your head for a moment. :-laf

Quickest way to identify the positive battery cable is find the one that hooks to the breakers, most of the time they are in or close to the compartment where the battery is located. I have to be careful because the wire colors in my mind are a** backwards... ... ... .

Thanks

Thanks for all the info guys. As for the trailer being plugged into shore power. The answer is yes. This was a stupid move on my end. Hopefully the converter is not that expensive.
