Looking for some insight from you guys and gals with experience.

A friend of mine just bought (ordered) an '03 high output , 3/4 ton automatic to tow a 5th wheel camper (10K pounds).

He plans on keeping it stock, and will tow around the east coast for a year or so before venturing out west and wherever.

What advice do you guys have for him?

What should he be wary of? What should he absolutely change before he starts towing?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Jay

I suggest he break in his new truck like he's going to use it,and to enjoy it,that HO auto will be plenty for a while,by them more bombs will be out and the prices will be less/and products more refined/better.

Install guages (pre/post turbo temp & transmission temp) at a minimum.

I know my 2nd gen recommends changing the rear diff fluid to something other than stock (can't recall now) prior to towing heavy loads. Don't know about the 3rd gens with the American Axles. He may want to double check in his manual.

I'd also recommend the Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks - they work great for my application (a heavy Lance camper).
