well my nieghbor got the diesel bug!! He is looking to buy a 24 valve. (98-01) Anybody have advice on what years to stay away from or particular issues for a given year? Keep in mind we are CA. ! thanks for any input -Russ

Heads up for the 53 block. The casting # will be below the injection pump. The 01. 5's are nice, but my opinion may be prejudiced. :)

I would also vote for an 01. 5 thats when they started running rear discs . My 01 seems to stop as good as my 63 VW with drums all the way around  . Im going to upgrade ,Also Look out for KDP up to 99.

I am in CA too, and bought both my vehicles used and out of state, it used to be if you didnt register them in the state for 90 days you didnt have to pay tax, now it is 365 days. Also since it is diesel there are no smog issues, just get her weighed and take it to the dmv, I went out of state for selection though, just couldnt find what i wanted, or for a price i thought was reasonable. just something to consider, especially if you refine your vehicle search a great deal might have to expand the search geography ;)
