I have a friend that is in MI that needs help asap! He just finished installing his FP gauge and now the truck wont start. From what I gathered from talking to him over the phone, his lift pump is VERY weak, as it barely pumps fuel out when you lift the prime handle on the fuel filter canister. he cant get it to blead the air out at the test port or any injector lines. If any of you are near him with a spare lift pump laying around he would greatly appreciate it. He is currently in Gladstone MI. you can reach him at 1-920-410-9890. His name is Justin. He lives about 3 hours away from where he is at right now, so that is the big push to fix this asap! if you have any ideas or wouldnt mine throwing some ideas his way, please give him a call. I dont think he has signed up here yet, but I have been eggin him to join up as he just got the truck.

FYI, its a 2002 CTD 24v HO 6spd truck with ~170k on the ticker.

Help a guy out please!!!

I thought I would post up, these guys are at my house and I was helping them with the install.

Cannot seem to get any fuel to the injection pump, and alpha thinks its the lift pump. If you are able you can call local 428-3574

If you have an air compressor ,you should be able to pressurize the tank enough to get the fuel flowing through the system to get it started.

We have been trying that, and can't seem to get fuel to push up through the canister. I can only put a rag around the hole and blow some air in there though, nothing to cap it off.

is there a generic pump that will work? local shops around him that are open still say they dont have the OEM style, but I know this is a carter pump, what will work? if there is a generic part number, can you please post it up?!

Just installing a FP gauge shouldnt have created a big problem. Have somebody crank the engine over WHILE someone else squirts some WD-40 into the intake (dont spray through your filter). It may take a few cranks of 10 seconds or so because WD-40 isnt nearly as volatile as starting fluid but is MUCH safer on diesels. DO NOT use starting fluid or you will get a run away condition. Stop spraying the WD-40 as soon as it fires up.

We got it going again. The lift pump was definetally dead. We are pretty sure it has been dead since he bought the truck.

Anyway. Getting desperate, I tried rigging up a way to pressurize the tank and keep it under pressure (somewhat). Hooked a hose up to a port on his sending unit on the tank and started blowing air into it. Got fuel to the filter, then proceeded to the lift pump banjo and the fuel pressure guage hose. Finally, with the #1 injector line cracked, it spitting fluid and lots of bubbles. Then she eventually caught and started running (pretty nastily until I got the injector line tightened up :-laf ). Followed them into town and all was well, they are on their way home now. Just gotta hope they make it the whole way.
