Buddy I work with has a friend who sold him a Land Rover. He didn't get the title so he traded it for a '93 Chevy 3500 SRW with a 4-speed 6. 5L. He sold it since all he wanted was money back from the Land Rover, but drove it to work Tuesday and I looked at it.

He says, it's pretty cool, smokes during startup, all plugs checked and working, and says "it pulls really well, has a lot of torque!"

I gave him a fake smile and agreed, then said, "You should have ridden in my Cummins before I got rid of it!", and my numbers were nothing to write home about!

Silly non-diesel owners!

Why the *Bleep* am I defending a 6.5L??????

Dad's bone stock '95 K2500 6. 5l would walk away from my '04. 5CTD (pre mod of course). Never owned the two at the same time, but I think I'm right here. Maybe not much of a tow'er--OK, definently not, but still a nice truck for hauling two sheets of lattice (inside joke). Even given all the troubles he had, I'd still take a 6. 5L TD over ANY gasser, and that includes a semi-hemi or a V10.

I know my '96 with #11 plate & 300 injectors wouldn't be able to outrun my '82 Blazer with Banks turbo 6. 2, up to 40-50mph. Being auto & 3. 73 gears it's fast off the line. After that my truck would have it for lunch.

My brother-in-law has a '92 Suburban with 380,xxx and has only had glowplugs and a valve job done to it. It does get up and go pretty good but it's gutless.

When the trans went out on my 95, I had my brother haul it to a shop on an open car hauler. His 6. 5 had to shift down going over some overpasses, but it still lost a lot of MPH's. Never could keep it over 50!!!!!

It did have some hop ups but I don't remember what he did to it.

Best mileage he ever got from it was 17 or so.

I drove allot of the 6. 5's in the Army blazers and pickups before Hummer's came along and they were OK when out messing around but they could'nt pull much of anything. The hummers had them to and ofcourse were not any better. Then my friend bought a chevy ext cab with a non turbo 6. 5 and that thing couldnt get out of it's own way.

I've been around a couple 6. 5's and I'll call them a lot of things but "powerfull" is not on the list.
