doing alot of searching old threads and looking for the conversion parts or part#s for going from my inverted Y steering to the T-steering I have a 2002 4wd. does anyone have a complete list of parts. I think my adj sleeve off the drop pitman arm I can keep? thanks

I use the "T" setup on my 96 and really like it. The info you see below was originally written by Cumminspower98 I think. I did some copy and pasting but the pictures didn't follow. The Moog PN's he provided are correct. I bought my stuff at Rock Auto. Hope this helps you. I don't use a steering stabilizer.

"I upgraded my steering from the inverted "Y" system to the heavy duty crossover system. The inverted "Y" setup has a couple drawbacks. First its quite a bit weaker and second is that the toe setting will move with any change in front end height. The solid bar between the two wheels is a lot stronger and holds the tow setting spot on at all times.

I installed Moog parts from Carquest for the 1998 year (the HD system was done only in '98/'99). Notice the size difference in the main tie rod between the wheels and the huge adjusting sleeve. Below are part numbers for the complete setup, which will work for '94-'97. To the best of my knowledge the pitman arm taper was changed in 2000 so for '00-'02 trucks you can use all the parts listed below except for the upper drag link end, in which case you need to substitute that part for the year truck you are working on.

I had no clearance issues at the wheels, as some do, even with the 2001 8" factory alloy wheels (original wheels were 6. 5" steel on this truck) and the '96 front axle, which was changed out because the original '98 axle must have been damaged in the accident this truck was in before I got it. So there you have it, a 1998 truck, 1996 front axle, 2001 alloy wheels and 1998 heavy duty tie rods and it all works great. "

You had better do some price comparisons. I did, and RockAuto was far better. Not just "a little better". Far better.

NAPA doesn't carry Moog parts, and Carquest prices for them were scary.

Dieselwrks,

That wasn't my writeup or website. I believe that belongs to Cumminpower98. I had checked out his site in the past and had saved it for my future reference. I can't take any credit for his fine work. He really did a nice job.

Also what SRath said about checking prices, I went with Rock Auto because they had all the Moog parts in stock and there prices were much better than anyone elses. I don't recall the exact price for all the Ram parts because I had some other parts for my other cars in the same order but I think all the Ram steering pieces were in the ~$325. 00 range from Rock Auto if memory serves me right.

If you do a Google search for Rock Auto discounts you should find some kind of current discount promo going on. They used to give one to TDR members but I don't remember the phrase you had to use. It might have been TURBODIESEL, I'm not sure though.

No... it doesn't. I went with Thurens heavy duty steering. I like it. Nice and heavy duty and easy to install. Yeah... you have to drill out the holes... but it is nice and simple.
