I have a 4in superlift on an 06 dodge megacab recently started hearing a popping noise (loud) coming from the front driver side alxe area, but only when i go in reverse and hit the brakes I will get one pop out of it. Then it will not do it again until I go forward. Getting worse and worse cannot find anything pretty mechanically inclined and it has me stumped. Any suggestions will help.

thanks

My first inclination is to blame the universal joints.

Barring that, the track bar would be the next suspect. It could be loose. Do you have an extended-length track bar to adjust for axle misalignment due to the increased suspension height?

I did a complete superlift suspension lift it came with new track bars, which I installed. I checked the u-joints they seem to be just fine. Tommorrow I will pull the drive shaft and tires and check all of them again, but it is definetly coming from around the front drivers side tire.

My 96 did that, in reverse only. sent it out for a FEA and no issue for about 5K miles then the noise came back. I have asked my front end guy what they tightened or changed and they don't seen to know what changed. The dealer siad it was the track bar when it get a little play in the rod end. So far I live with the noise and it hasn't created any notable problems.

never owned a first gen but on my second gen i had a similar issue and i discovered the problem replacing my brake pads.....

it was the holes that the lugs poke through in the brake rotor were worn so when you reversed direction and hit the brakes the rotors would move a bit and make a "clunk".

required new rotors to fix it but they were relatively cheap.

problem is theory is that you should've noticed this prior to your suspension work... . easy enough to check though.

hope this helps, j

i try the track bars dont think it is the brakes when i say loud popping noise i mean pretty loud. but i will check all thanks for all the ideas guys.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of it. Also check to see whether the anti-rattle clips are still on the front pads. But, of course, none of that should be affected by a suspension lift.

i try the track bars

I notice you use the plural here. Do you know what the track bar is? It's not the control arms (also called radius arms).

Could be the hubs. I have an 06 mc 4wd w/ 81k on it. I just took it in to have the front end looked at for similar issues. Both hubs need to be replaced.
